Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,549 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,549 m of the 3,984 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 629 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 08R at London Gatwick Airport (EGKK), a major international airport located in West Sussex, England. The takeoff distance was 726 meters, which accounted for 29% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 154 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 8 knots at a direction of 60 degrees.
The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport. The climb phase involved an ascent from an initial altitude of 1,242 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 41,449 feet above sea level, an increase of 40,208 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 145 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took the aircraft over various locations, including the town of Zingem in Flanders, Belgium.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 11 minutes and covered a distance of 79 nautical miles. The cruise phase started overhead Zingem and took the aircraft over other locations in Belgium. After the cruise phase, the aircraft began its enroute descent, which started 1 mile east of Sprimont, a town in Wallonia, Belgium. The descent phase involved a decrease in altitude from 41,394 feet above sea level to 1,701 feet above sea level, a decrease of 39,693 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 109 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 07R at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF) was made from the southwest, heading 70.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,355 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 8 knots at a direction of 30 degrees. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots.
The aircraft landed on runway 07R, which had a length of 3,984 meters. The threshold speed was good at 121 knots, and the touchdown point was 215 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 112 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -132 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 1,470 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway length.
The final phase of the flight involved taxiing to the parking from the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 346 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 70 minutes. The aircraft used 2,937 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF) on runway 07R, achieving a high score of 96.6%. The final approach was conducted from the southwest, heading 70.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,355 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft's approach and landing performance were satisfactory, with a good threshold height and speed of 121 knots at touchdown. The touchdown point was located 215 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 112 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -132 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 30°. This resulted in a crosswind component of 5 knots and a headwind component of 6 knots, which the aircraft successfully managed during the landing. The runway length of 3,984 meters was sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 1,470 meters, which accounted for 37% of the available runway.
The runway rollout alignment was excellent, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, allowing the aircraft to come to a stop in a controlled manner. Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft demonstrating good handling and control throughout the approach and landing phases.
