Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,903 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,903 m of the 2,498 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 340 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 05R at Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL). The takeoff distance was 643 meters, which accounted for 27% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 152 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and winds of 5 knots at 100 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile west of Ratingen, Germany, and the aircraft ascended from 1,247 feet above sea level to 32,312 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,065 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 99 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 1 mile north of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and lasted for 39 minutes, covering a distance of 274 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 1 mile west of Baldramsdorf, Austria, and the aircraft descended from 32,651 feet above sea level to 1,550 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,101 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 102 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 14 at Rijeka Airport (LDRI) was made from the northwest, heading 144.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,285 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 14 was successful, with the touchdown distance being 342 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 132 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -623 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and winds of 3 knots at 312 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the tailwind was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,826 meters, which accounted for 73% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 482 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 90 minutes. The aircraft used 3,929 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at LDRI Rijeka Airport, achieving an overall score of 88.9%. The final approach to runway 14 was initiated from the north-west, with a heading of 144.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold speed of 134 knots.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a distance of 342 meters, which was considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate of -623 feet per minute (fpm) was also deemed heavy, indicating a steeper descent than intended. Despite these minor issues, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 13°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots from a direction of 312°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the tailwind component was 3 knots. These conditions likely contributed to the successful landing.
The total landing distance of 1,826 meters was 73% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the aircraft was able to slow down quickly and maintain control after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a good touchdown distance and alignment. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and rate, which will need to be addressed in future training exercises.
