Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,128 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,128 m of the 2,981 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 929 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied from the parking area to runway 19 at FKYS Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport, a movement that lasted 9 minutes and covered 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 19, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 accelerated to a liftoff speed of 152 kt, using 1,497 m of runway (44 % of the available length). Ambient conditions were 30 °C with a 1 kt wind from 0°, a 0 kt cross-wind and a 1 kt tail-wind component.
Climb commenced one mile south of FKYS, with the aircraft ascending from 3,174 ft asl to 15,998 ft asl, an increase of 12,824 ft achieved in 6 minutes while covering 36 nm.
Level cruise began three miles south of Ngomedzap and persisted for 5 minutes, during which the flight covered another 36 nm at the cruise altitude.
Descent was initiated eighteen miles east of Akom II, with the airplane descending from 16,001 ft asl to 3,902 ft asl, a loss of 12,098 ft over 12 minutes and a distance of 61 nm.
The final approach to runway 18 at FGMY President Obiang Nguema International Airport was flown from the north on a heading of 177.0° at 4 nm and 1,698 ft agl.
Landing on runway 18 was executed with a threshold speed of 150 kt; the touchdown occurred 524 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 148 kt and a vertical rate of minus 275 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 3.8 m from the centreline, and the total landing distance measured 2,058 m (69 % of the runway). Weather at the time was 22 °C with calm winds (0 kt from 293°) and no cross-wind component.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as perfect following the landing.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 144 nm, took 34 minutes, and consumed 1,438 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 18 at FGMY President Obiang Nguema International Airport was assessed as unstable at the 1,000 ft gate, with a sink rate that was too high. The aircraft was inbound from the north on a heading of 177.0° at 4 nm and 1,698 ft agl.
At threshold the aircraft crossed at 76 ft agl, a height that was well above the target, and the threshold speed was good at 150 kt.
Touchdown occurred 524 m beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 148 kt that was a little fast and a vertical rate rated fair at minus 275 fpm. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned, being 3.8 m off the centreline.
Rollout alignment was perfect and the total landing distance was 2,058 m, representing 69 % of the runway length.
Refine the approach to achieve a stabilized profile by reducing the sink rate before the 1,000 ft gate, and aim to touch down nearer the intended zone to keep the landing distance well within limits. Adjust speed slightly below the current 148 kt to better match the target touchdown speed.
