Arrival
Add power on short final to hold 147 kt at the threshold rather than letting speed decay.
What happened: You crossed the threshold at 117 kt against a target of 147 kt, below reference speed.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator, hold 147 kt down to the threshold.
See Arrival Landing
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,642 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 453 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied from the parking area to runway 24L at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, covering less than 1 nm in 13 minutes.
During the departure roll on runway 24L, the Boeing 737-800 accelerated through a takeoff distance of 1,226 m, representing 46 % of the runway, and lifted off at 146 kt. Ambient conditions were 16 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt crosswind component and a 2 kt headwind.
Climb commenced one mile southwest of LEBL, with the aircraft ascending from 980 ft asl to 29,906 ft asl, a gain of 28,926 ft achieved in 15 minutes while covering 93 nm.
The first cruise segment began 12 nm southeast of Llafranc, lasting 3 minutes and traversing 76 nm at level flight.
Descent started 52 nm southwest of Mazargues, where the aircraft reduced altitude from 30,000 ft asl to 12,125 ft asl, a loss of 17,876 ft over 13 minutes and 85 nm.
A second cruise phase was initiated 3 nm southeast of Rians, lasting 2 minutes and covering 11 nm in level flight.
The next descent began overhead Fox, with the aircraft descending from 11,997 ft asl to 968 ft asl, a decrease of 11,029 ft completed in 10 minutes while traveling 54 nm.
On final approach to runway 04L at LFMN Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport, the aircraft approached from the southwest on a heading of 46.0°, at 4 nm distance and 930 ft above ground level.
Landing was executed on runway 04L, which is 2,642 m long. The threshold speed was slightly below target at 117 kt, touchdown occurred 454 m down the runway at 110 kt, and the aircraft settled at a descent rate of minus 180 fpm with perfect alignment. Local weather reported a temperature of 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt crosswind and a 1 kt tailwind.
The total landing roll measured 1,219 m, equivalent to 46 % of the runway, and rollout alignment remained perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 4 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 327 nm, required 58 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 3,062 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800, scored 98.6 % on the landing, entered the final approach to runway 04L at LFMN Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport from the south-west on a heading of 46.0 ° at 4 nm and 930 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1 000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At threshold the aircraft was slightly below the target speed, recording a threshold speed of 117 kt. The flare was executed with a good threshold height and resulted in a touchdown distance of 454 m, which was judged good.
Touchdown occurred at 110 kt, a speed described as good, with a vertical rate of -180 fpm, also rated good. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The total landing distance was 1 219 m, representing 46 % of the 2 642 m runway, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. Local weather was temperature 15 °C, wind 2 kt at 270 °, with a 1 kt crosswind and a 1 kt tailwind.
Maintain the target threshold speed by adjusting the final-approach speed to meet the published value, which will keep the touchdown point within the optimal aim zone while preserving the excellent alignment already demonstrated.
