Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 5,015 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 202 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 24 at KELM Elmira Corning Regional Airport, with a takeoff distance of 2,547 feet, which was 35% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 139 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 63°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 270°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 2 knots. After departing from the airport, the enroute climb started overhead Big Flats, New York, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,907 feet above sea level to 25,009 feet above sea level, an increase of 23,102 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 57 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 8 miles southeast of Austin, Pennsylvania, and lasted for 36 minutes, covering a distance of 301 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 3 miles northwest of 16KY Praise God Airport Carter, Kentucky, where it descended from 25,001 feet above sea level to 2,225 feet above sea level, a decrease of 22,776 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 77 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 18 at KRGA Madison was made from the north, heading 175.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,229 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 18, which had a length of 5,015 feet, was successful, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 120 knots. The touchdown distance was 198 feet, and the touchdown speed was 119 knots, which was slightly fast. The touchdown rate was very heavy at -718 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 12 feet from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 26 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 269°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 0 knots.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 442 nautical miles, which was covered in 67 minutes, and the aircraft used 6,355 pounds of fuel during the flight.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed on runway 18 at KRGA Madison, achieving a score of 92.2%. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 175.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,229 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach speed and threshold height were well within the acceptable parameters, with a threshold speed of 120 kt and a good threshold height.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's touchdown distance was 198 ft, which is within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown speed of 119 kt was slightly faster than the recommended speed, indicating a potential for a heavier-than-ideal touchdown. The touchdown rate was indeed very heavy, at -718 fpm, which may have contributed to the slightly misaligned runway touchdown position, being 12 ft off the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 2 kt at 269°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a headwind of 0 kt. The total landing distance of 2,328 ft was 46% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 26 ft from the centreline, indicating a potential for further improvement in the landing technique.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there are areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown speed and touchdown rate. With some adjustments to the landing technique, the pilot of Aircraft C750 can aim to achieve an even higher score in future landings.
