MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,483 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 978 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, then departed from runway 15 at LSPN Triengen Airfield. The takeoff distance was 508 meters, which was 120% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 67 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 3°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 356°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 2 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Bueron in the Kanton Luzern, Switzerland. The climb took 3 minutes and covered 4 nautical miles, with an increase in altitude from 2,349 feet to 3,795 feet.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile northeast of Triengen and lasted 2 minutes, covering 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then began another climb, this time starting overhead Schlossrued in the Kanton Aargau, Switzerland. The climb took 2 minutes and covered 3 nautical miles, with an increase in altitude from 4,199 feet to 4,958 feet.
The enroute level cruise then started overhead Teufenthal and lasted 45 minutes, covering 73 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 2 miles southeast of Willstaett in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. The descent took 3 minutes and covered 6 nautical miles, with a decrease in altitude from 5,119 feet to 3,241 feet.
The enroute level cruise then started 2 miles south of Rheinau and lasted 116 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 03 at EDSB Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport, approaching from the southwest at a heading of 35.0° and 4 nautical miles from the airport.
The landing was made on runway 03, which had a length of 2,483 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 58 knots. The touchdown point was 536 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 55 knots and a touchdown rate of -232 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.9 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 1,212 meters, which was 49% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 13.2 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 100 nautical miles, and the flight took 60 minutes. The aircraft used -92 kilograms of fuel during the flight. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 110°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 0 knots.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed on runway 03 at EDSB Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport, achieving a score of 81.8%. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 35.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,746 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 58 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 536 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. However, the touchdown speed of 55 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth landing. The touchdown rate of -232 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been brought down more gently.
One notable issue during the landing was the misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was off-centerline by 9.9 meters. This could have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the approach or a miscalculation of the runway centerline. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 13.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been a result of the initial misalignment.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 110°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and there was no headwind. The total landing distance of 1,212 meters was 49% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of maintaining a more accurate alignment with the runway centerline. With some adjustments to the approach and landing technique, the pilot could potentially achieve an even higher score in the future.
