Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,232 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,232 m of the 3,527 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 869 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 27 at EKBI Billund Airport in Denmark. The takeoff distance was 1,294 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 13 knots at a direction of 259 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 13 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead EKBI Billund Airport. The climb took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 99 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,241 feet above sea level to 33,403 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,163 feet. The enroute level cruise then began 18 miles northwest of Helgoland, Germany, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 27 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 13 miles north of Norderney, Germany, and took 26 minutes to complete, covering a distance of 127 nautical miles. During this time, the aircraft descended from an altitude of 33,419 feet above sea level to 1,296 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,123 feet. The final approach to runway 18R at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 182.0 degrees at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,287 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 18R was successful, with the touchdown point being 455 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 142 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was firm at -335 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at a direction of 120 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 2,154 meters, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 7.8 meters from the centerline. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 264 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 69 minutes. The aircraft used 2,448 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 182.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,287 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 18R, which has a length of 3,527 meters.
The threshold height at 68 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired when reaching the runway threshold. Additionally, the threshold speed was well above the target at 152 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was descending at a faster rate than intended. The touchdown point was 455 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the ideal landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 142 knots was a little fast, indicating that the aircraft was not fully slowed down before touching down. The touchdown rate was firm at -335 feet per minute (fpm), which is a relatively high rate of descent. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.3 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the deviations in the landing parameters.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 120°. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. Despite these favorable weather conditions, the aircraft's landing performance was not ideal.
The total landing distance was 2,154 meters, which is 61% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, indicating that the aircraft took some time to come to a stop after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 7.8 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the deviations in the landing parameters.
Overall, while the Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, there were several deviations from the ideal landing parameters. These deviations may be due to a combination of factors, including the aircraft's performance characteristics, the pilot's technique, and the weather conditions.
