Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,524 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 784 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Boeing 777-300 then departed from runway 05 at ZSAM Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 957 meters, which was 31% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 1 knot at 90 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of ZSAM Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, and climbed from an altitude of 1,062 feet above sea level to 37,032 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,969 feet, in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 126 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 11 miles north of Tantou, China, and lasted for 83 minutes, covering a distance of 703 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 6 miles west of RKTO R 500 Jeonju, South Korea, and descended from 37,228 feet above sea level to 10,901 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,327 feet, in 10 minutes and covering a distance of 69 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 5 miles southeast of Suwon, South Korea, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles southwest of RKSW Suwon Airport, and descended from 10,638 feet above sea level to 1,281 feet above sea level, a decrease of 9,356 feet, in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
The final approach to landing was made at Incheon International Airport, with the aircraft descending from 1,249 feet above ground level to 1,212 feet above ground level. The aircraft then approached touchdown, descending from 37 feet above ground level to 0 feet above ground level, a decrease of 37 feet, in 10 seconds. The touchdown speed was 141 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at -244 feet per minute. The touchdown point was very long, using more than 50% of the available runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -1 degree Celsius, with a wind speed of 5 knots at 40 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The landing rollout at Incheon International Airport took 925 meters, and the aircraft came to a stop at an altitude of 19 feet above sea level.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 939 nautical miles, taking 131 minutes, and the aircraft used 15,959 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at Incheon International Airport, achieving a final approach score of 64.3%. The aircraft began its descent from 1 nautical mile (nm) to 1 nm at an altitude of 1,249 feet above ground level (agl). As it approached the touchdown point, the aircraft continued its descent, reducing its altitude from 37 feet agl to 0 feet agl in a span of 10 seconds.
The touchdown speed of 141 knots was slightly above the optimal speed, indicating that the pilot may have needed to apply more braking force upon landing. However, the touchdown rate of -244 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was relatively smooth. Unfortunately, the touchdown point was located very far down the runway, utilizing more than 50% of the available runway length.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -1 °C and a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 40°. This resulted in a crosswind component of 5 knots and a headwind component of 2 knots. Despite these conditions, the aircraft was able to maintain control and land safely.
Following touchdown, the aircraft underwent a landing rollout, during which it maintained an altitude of 19 feet above sea level (asl). The distance covered during the rollout was 925 meters, indicating that the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance from the touchdown point. Overall, while there were some areas for improvement, the Boeing 777-300 aircraft demonstrated its ability to safely land at Incheon International Airport despite challenging weather conditions.
