Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,046 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 361 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 17 at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (KMSP). The takeoff distance was 1,287 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 149 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of -2°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 220°.
As the aircraft climbed out of KMSP, it began its enroute climb 1 mile south of the airport, rising from an altitude of 1,886 feet above sea level to 35,086 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,200 feet in 13 minutes. This climb covered a distance of 167 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles northeast of Spring Green, Wisconsin, and lasted for 34 minutes, covering a distance of 558 nautical miles.
The enroute descent phase began 9 miles east of the Willow Bend Airport (2WV5) in Union, West Virginia, where the aircraft descended from 35,301 feet above sea level to 4,423 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,878 feet in 11 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 117 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 3 miles east of Creedmoor, North Carolina, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The final descent phase began 6 miles west of Wake Forest, North Carolina, where the aircraft descended from 3,838 feet above sea level to 1,706 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,132 feet in 2 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 23R at the Raleigh Durham International Airport (KRDU), approaching from the northeast at a heading of 225.0°, 4 nautical miles from the runway and 1,330 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 23R was successful, with a touchdown distance of 362 meters, which was 46% of the runway length. The threshold speed was good at 137 knots, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -362 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 1°C, with a wind speed of 0 knots at 124°.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 866 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 77 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 4,956 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 23R at KRDU Raleigh Durham International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 225.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,330 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was recorded at 137 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance of 362 meters was also satisfactory, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft during the landing phase. However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly higher than the ideal speed, which may have resulted in a firmer touchdown rate of -362 feet per minute (fpm).
Despite the slightly fast touchdown speed, the aircraft's runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained a stable and controlled approach. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 1°C and a wind speed of 0 knots at 124°. This meant that there was no crosswind or headwind to contend with, making the landing even more challenging.
The total landing distance of 1,410 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot had made a smooth and controlled approach, and the aircraft's brakes were able to slow it down efficiently during the rollout phase. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained a stable and controlled descent during the landing phase.
Overall, the Airbus A320's landing on runway 23R at KRDU Raleigh Durham International Airport was a success, with the pilot demonstrating excellent control and precision throughout the approach and landing phases. The high score of 98.5% reflects the pilot's skill and expertise in navigating the aircraft safely and efficiently.
