MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,530 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,715 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 16R at ZSPD Shanghai Pudong International Airport. The takeoff distance was 5,838 feet, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 174 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 3 knots at 170 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed out of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile southeast of the airport. The climb started at an altitude of 1,044 feet above sea level and reached a maximum altitude of 31,607 feet, an increase of 30,563 feet in 19 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 109 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 71 miles east of ZSZS Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport. This phase lasted for 36 minutes and covered a distance of 281 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 41 miles north of Jiufen, Taipei, Taiwan, and descended from 31,699 feet to 3,897 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 27 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 13 miles north of Jiufen and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. The final descent phase began overhead Jiufen and took the aircraft from 4,030 feet to 947 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28 at RCSS Taipei Songshan Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 273.0 degrees at 2 nautical miles and 920 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the touchdown point being 340 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 127 knots, and the touchdown rate was -167 feet per minute, both of which were considered good.
The total landing distance was 3,295 feet, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft then began taxiing to the parking area, a process that took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 451 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 88 minutes. The aircraft used 7,719 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at RCSS Taipei Songshan Airport, achieving a high score of 99.2%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the east, heading 273.0° at a distance of 2 nautical miles and an altitude of 920 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 28, which has a length of 8,530 feet.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 137 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's skill in managing the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown point was 340 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively short distance, and the touchdown speed of 127 knots was also within the acceptable range.
The touchdown rate of -167 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating that the aircraft touched down smoothly and without excessive deceleration. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, showing that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 91°F and a light wind of 2 knots at 320°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind of 1 knot each.
The total landing distance of 3,295 feet was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and skill, demonstrating the pilot's expertise in handling the Airbus A321.
