MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,955 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 193 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 2.48 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a CRJ900, then departed from runway 20 at UHMD Provideniya Bay Airport, a location in Chukotka, Russia. The takeoff distance was 1,760 meters, which accounted for 98% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 14°C and winds of 2 knots at 49°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the tailwind was 2 knots. After departing from the airport, the enroute climb started 1 mile south of UHMD Provideniya Bay Airport, where the aircraft climbed from 1,059 feet above sea level to 30,805 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,747 feet in 17 minutes and covering 95 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 12 miles east of Savoonga, Alaska, and lasted for 18 minutes, covering 138 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 17 miles northwest of PAUK Alakanuk Airport, Alakanuk, Alaska, where it descended from 30,861 feet above sea level to 1,999 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,863 feet in 16 minutes and covering 78 nautical miles.
Following the descent, the aircraft entered another enroute level cruise 14 miles south of PASM St Mary's Airport, St Mary's, Alaska, which lasted for 5 minutes and covered 11 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 35 at PASM St Mary's Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 3.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,007 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 35 at PASM St Mary's Airport was successful, with a touchdown distance of 192 meters. The touchdown speed was 127 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was very heavy at -1,165 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 19.2 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 16°C and winds of 11 knots at 70°, with a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,052 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 23.3 meters from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 327 nautical miles, which was covered in 62 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,145 kilograms of fuel.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed at PASM St Mary's Airport, but the landing was not without its challenges. The final approach to runway 35 from the south was initiated at a height of 1,007 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft was heading 3.0 degrees, which is a relatively shallow angle, indicating a stable approach.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 127 knots, which is within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate was very heavy, at -1,165 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a significant deceleration upon touchdown. This could be a concern for the aircraft's safety and the comfort of its passengers.
The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned, with the aircraft deviating from the centreline by 19.2 meters. This misalignment could be due to a combination of factors, including the pilot's judgment, the aircraft's performance, and the wind conditions. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots at 70 degrees, may have contributed to the misalignment.
The total landing distance was 1,052 meters, which is 54% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to decelerate quickly after touchdown. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned, with the aircraft deviating from the centreline by 23.3 meters. This could be a concern for the aircraft's safety and the safety of other aircraft on the runway.
Overall, the landing was not perfect, but it was successful. The aircraft's performance and the pilot's skills were able to overcome the challenges posed by the wind conditions and the runway alignment. However, there is room for improvement, particularly in terms of reducing the touchdown rate and improving the runway alignment.
