Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,490 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 374 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Groningen Airport Eelde, the aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 23, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 118 kt in a distance of 788 meters, which accounted for 32% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 16 °C and a negligible headwind of 1 kt from a direction of 270°.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern, it demonstrated a high degree of agility, completing the pattern entry in less than 1 nm in 21 seconds. The subsequent turns and legs of the pattern were executed with precision, with the downwind turn requiring a distance of 1 nm and an angle of 86.4° to the runway. The aircraft's performance during the base leg turn was equally impressive, with a distance of 2 nm and an angle of 53.5° to the runway. The final approach was initiated from a heading of 229.0°, with the aircraft descending to an altitude of 314 ft above ground level (agl) at a distance of 0 nm from the runway.
The landing was executed flawlessly, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 95 kt and a touchdown distance of 379 meters, which accounted for 30% of the available runway length. The touchdown rate was an impressive -95 fpm, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. Following touchdown, the aircraft rolled out to a stop in a distance of 755 meters, with the runway rollout alignment also being perfect. The total flight distance was 8 nm, and the aircraft used no fuel during the flight, which lasted 4 minutes.
The final approach to runway 23 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde from the north east was executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 229.0° at 0 nm and 314 ft above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed that was well above the target at 114 kt. This allowed for a controlled descent and a smooth touchdown.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown distance was good at 379 m, and the touchdown speed was also within acceptable limits at 95 kt. The touchdown rate was particularly impressive, with an excellent -95 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a light wind of 1 kt at 270°, contributed to a stable and predictable approach.
The rollout phase was equally impressive, with the aircraft maintaining perfect runway rollout alignment. The total landing distance of 755 m, which accounted for just 30% of the runway length, was a testament to the pilot's skill and the aircraft's performance. Overall, the landing was scored at 99.2%, a reflection of the high level of proficiency and control demonstrated throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
