Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,360 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 621 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 19L at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, with a takeoff distance of 1,016 meters, which was 35% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 22°C and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 179°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 14 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. The climb took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 88 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,719 feet above sea level to 29,580 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,861 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 12 miles south west of ENEE Sølenstua Airfield Engerdal. This phase lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 43 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 11 miles east of Tolga. The descent took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 65 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 29,026 feet above sea level to 1,537 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,489 feet.
The final approach to runway 27 at ENVA Trondheim Airport, Værnes, was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 270.0° at an altitude of 1,474 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 2,360 meters. The threshold height at 65 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 135 knots. The touchdown point was 201 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 125 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -222 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 21°C and a wind speed of 12 knots from a direction of 250°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 11 knots. The total landing distance was 1,180 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 203 nautical miles, and the flight took 47 minutes. The aircraft used 2,050 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Trondheim Airport, Værnes, with a score of 93.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,474 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 27, which has a length of 2,360 meters.
Upon reaching the threshold, the aircraft's height was above the target, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing profile. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 135 knots, demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft's descent. The touchdown point was located 201 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight overcorrection or a slightly longer than expected landing roll.
The touchdown speed of 125 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating that the pilot maintained control and managed the aircraft's energy state effectively. However, the touchdown rate of -222 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to achieve a smoother touchdown with more precise control.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained the aircraft's heading and alignment with the runway during the final approach and touchdown. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 21°C and a moderate headwind of 11 knots. The crosswind component was minimal at 4 knots, which made the landing conditions relatively straightforward.
The total landing distance of 1,180 meters was 50% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's weight and the weather conditions. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control and alignment with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with some minor deviations from the ideal landing profile. However, the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft, and the landing was completed safely and efficiently.
