Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,786 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 484 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing runway 26 at EGBP Cotswold Airport, the Carenado T-34 Bravo lifted off the ground after a takeoff distance of 349 meters, which accounted for 22% of the available runway length. The aircraft achieved liftoff speed of 78 knots, and with a local temperature of 15°C and a gentle headwind of 1 knot, the conditions were favorable for a smooth departure. The aircraft then entered a left-hand pattern, navigating the circuit with ease, completing the downwind turn at an angle of 73.1 degrees to the runway and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
As the aircraft continued its pattern, it executed a series of precise turns, maintaining a steady heading and altitude. The base leg turn was completed at an angle of 57.2 degrees, and the final approach was initiated from the east, heading 260.0 degrees at an altitude of 201 feet above ground level. The aircraft touched down on runway 26, with a touchdown speed of 48 knots and a touchdown rate of -14 feet per minute, which was well within the acceptable limits. The touchdown distance of 481 meters was also satisfactory, accounting for 30% of the available runway length.
The aircraft's performance during the landing phase was impressive, with a runway touchdown position that was only slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.6 meters. The total landing distance of 755 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway length, was also within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft throughout the landing phase. The total flight distance of 6 nautical miles was completed in 6 minutes, and the aircraft used a mere 1 kilogram of fuel, demonstrating its efficiency and performance capabilities.
The aircraft touched down smoothly on runway 26 at EGBP Cotswold Airport, with a threshold height that was well within acceptable limits. The approach quality was excellent, with a threshold speed of 69 kt that was precisely maintained. The touchdown distance of 481 m was also good, indicating a well-executed flare. The touchdown speed of 48 kt was within the desired range, and the touchdown rate of -14 fpm was perfect, demonstrating a high degree of control and precision.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, it was slightly misaligned by 3.6 m from the centreline, but this deviation was minor and did not significantly impact the overall performance. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle headwind of 1 kt, were favorable for the landing. The aircraft's ability to maintain a steady speed and direction despite these conditions was a testament to its handling characteristics.
The rollout phase was marked by excellent alignment, with the aircraft staying very close to the centreline. The total landing distance of 755 m, which accounted for 47% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. Overall, the landing was a success, with a score of 98.2% reflecting the high degree of precision and control demonstrated by the pilot.
