Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,746 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,746 m of the 3,237 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 603 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 31L at John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK). The takeoff distance was 1,648 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 166 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 17 knots at 300°.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb 1 mile south east of Howard Beach, New York, and ascended from 1,015 feet above sea level to 29,604 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,589 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 62 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began overhead Gold Key Lake, Pennsylvania, and lasted for 75 minutes, covering a distance of 468 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 5 miles east of 24MI Johnson Airport Alto, Michigan, and descended from 29,775 feet above sea level to 9,738 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,038 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 108 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise 10 miles north east of Highwood, Illinois, which lasted for 10 minutes, covering a distance of 34 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 1 mile west of Elgin, Illinois, and descended from 9,735 feet above sea level to 5,455 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,280 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 29 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise 3 miles east of Kenilworth, Illinois, which lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final enroute descent started 3 miles east of Rogers Park, Illinois, and descended from 4,978 feet above sea level to 1,938 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,040 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 27C at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (KORD) from the east, heading 270.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,264 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 27C was successful, with the touchdown point being 190 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was hard at -431 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 10°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 180°.
The total landing distance was 1,668 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft then began taxiing to the parking from the runway, which took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 727 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 164 minutes. The aircraft used 6,385 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 27C at KORD Chicago O'Hare International Airport, achieving a score of 89.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a local wind of 8 knots at 180°, resulting in a headwind of 0 knots and a crosswind of 8 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold height was found to be well above the target, indicating a slightly higher-than-ideal approach. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 138 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed of 130 knots. The touchdown point was located 190 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The runway touchdown alignment was reported to be very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 10°C and a wind speed of 8 knots.
The total landing distance was measured at 1,668 meters, which accounts for 52% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was reported to be perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 89.9%. However, there were some minor deviations from the target, including a slightly fast touchdown speed and a touchdown point located beyond the touchdown zone.
