Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,873 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 731 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, then departed from runway 08R at Miami International Airport (KMIA). The takeoff distance was 1,606 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and winds of 6 knots at 79 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 6 knots. After departing from KMIA, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southwest of Brownsville, Florida. The climb took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 99 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 936 feet above sea level to 36,795 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,859 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 9 miles south of Summerland Key Cove Airport (FD51) and lasted for 60 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 435 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 48 miles northwest of Rio Lagartos, Mexico, and took 23 minutes to complete, covering a distance of 83 nautical miles. The aircraft descended from 36,974 feet above sea level to 1,330 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,645 feet.
The final approach to runway 10 at Aeropuerto Internacional Manuel Crescencio Rejón (MMMD) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 105.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,286 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 10, which had a length of 2,873 meters. The threshold height at 60 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 129 knots.
The touchdown point was 301 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 115 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -286 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and winds of 9 knots at 110 degrees, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,405 meters, which was 49% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 628 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 116 minutes. The aircraft used 4,085 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at MMMD Aeropuerto Internacional Manuel Crescencio Rejón, achieving an overall score of 88.3%. The final approach to runway 10 was conducted from the west, heading 105.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being above the target at 60 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 129 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown point was located 301 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 115 knots was within the acceptable range, suggesting that the aircraft was properly configured for landing. However, the touchdown rate of -286 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, indicating that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly higher-than-desired rate of descent.
In terms of runway alignment, the aircraft was slightly misaligned by 6.8 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 26°C and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 110°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 9 knots, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,405 meters was 49% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for taxiing and that the pilots maintained control throughout the landing process. Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing performance, the Airbus A319 aircraft demonstrated a satisfactory landing at MMMD Aeropuerto Internacional Manuel Crescencio Rejón.
