MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,441 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 598 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Nuremberg Airport (EDDN), the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of approximately 1 nautical mile. Upon reaching runway 28, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 1,527-meter stretch of the 2,441-meter runway, which accounted for 57% of its length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 152 knots, overcoming the negligible headwind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from Nuremberg, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 2,024 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 35,898 feet, a vertical gain of 33,874 feet in 20 minutes. The climb phase covered a distance of 135 nautical miles, bringing the aircraft to a point 1 mile west of Fuldatal, Germany. The enroute level cruise phase that followed lasted 62 minutes and spanned 472 nautical miles, during which the aircraft maintained a steady altitude. The descent phase, which started 1 mile southeast of Jorpeland, Norway, saw the aircraft descend from 36,026 feet to 1,535 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Bergen Airport, Flesland (ENBR), it initiated its final approach to runway 17, aligning itself with the runway from the north. The landing was executed with a threshold speed slightly above the target, at 143 knots. The touchdown point was 176 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 135 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -353 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The total landing distance was 1,396 meters, accounting for 57% of the runway length. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 734 nautical miles, and the aircraft consumed 5,138 kilograms of fuel during the journey, which lasted 116 minutes.
The final approach to runway 17 at ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland, was conducted from the north, aligning with the heading of 171.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,376 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 143 knots, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing conditions.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was located 176 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 135 knots was a little fast, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -353 feet per minute. Notably, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating excellent control and precision during the landing phase. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 6°C and a headwind of 25 knots, contributed to the overall landing performance.
The total landing distance of 1,396 meters was 57% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, showcasing the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing performance scored 96.4%, reflecting a high level of proficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures.
