Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 4,523 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,523 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 670 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a PA28 Arrow III, then departed from runway 10 at KMGN Harbor Springs Airport. The takeoff distance was 961 feet, which was 30% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 79 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 73°F and winds of 7 knots at 69°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead KMGN Harbor Springs Airport and climbing from 1,102 feet above sea level to 2,245 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,143 feet in 2 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 1 mile north of Petoskey and lasting 3 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles northwest of Bay Shore and descending from 2,414 feet above sea level to 1,928 feet above sea level, a decrease of 486 feet in 2 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile northeast of Charlevoix and lasting 3 minutes, covering 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 09 at KCVX Charlevoix Municipal Airport was made from the west, heading 84.0° at 1 nautical mile and 486 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 09, which had a length of 4,523 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 78 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 660 feet, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 70 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -226 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 68°F and winds of 6 knots at 90°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 6 knots. The total landing distance was 1,541 feet, which was 34% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 23 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 13 minutes. The aircraft used 19 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The PA28 Arrow III aircraft successfully landed at KCVX Charlevoix Municipal Airport, achieving a score of 99.7%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 84.0° at 1 nm and 486 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated good control and precision during the approach, ultimately landing on runway 09.
The runway length at KCVX Charlevoix Municipal Airport is 4,523 ft, providing a sufficient margin for the aircraft to touch down safely. The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 78 kt, which may have been due to various factors such as wind resistance or pilot input.
The touchdown distance of 660 ft was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down effectively and touch down within a reasonable distance from the threshold. However, the touchdown speed of 70 kt was a little fast, which may have resulted in a slightly higher touchdown rate. The touchdown rate of -226 fpm was fair, suggesting that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of touchdown relatively well.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 68°F and a wind speed of 6 kt at 90°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 kt, while the headwind component was 6 kt, which helped to reduce the aircraft's ground speed and make the landing more manageable.
The total landing distance of 1,541 ft was 34% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the aircraft was well-controlled and stable during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and landing phases.
