Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,107 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,107 ft of the 10,770 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,218 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight departed from Sacramento International Airport, where it began its journey on runway 17L. Taxiing to the runway took 15 minutes and covered 2 nautical miles. As the aircraft lifted off, it accelerated to a liftoff speed of 175 knots, utilizing 76% of the 6,539-foot runway. Local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 65°F and a gentle headwind of 4 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to cruising altitude, it traversed a significant distance, covering 150 nautical miles in 21 minutes and ascending 33,898 feet. The enroute climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which lasted 51 minutes and covered 416 nautical miles. The aircraft then initiated a second climb phase, this time ascending 2,003 feet in just 3 minutes and covering 28 nautical miles. The flight continued with multiple level cruise phases, including a notable 109-minute segment covering 884 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, gradually losing altitude from 36,990 feet to 12,006 feet in just 9 minutes.
The final approach to runway 28C at Chicago O'Hare International Airport was executed from the east, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 270.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,359 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 142 knots and a touchdown distance of 1,221 feet. The total landing distance was 5,856 feet, utilizing 54% of the 10,764-foot runway. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 17 minutes to cover 3 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 1,629 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 241 minutes and a fuel consumption of 21,975 pounds.
