Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,814 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 428 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at London Luton Airport, taking approximately 9 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 25, with a takeoff distance of 1,202 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 13°C temperature and a wind speed of 17 knots at 219 degrees. The crosswind was 10 knots, while the headwind was 14 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Luton, with the aircraft ascending from 1,402 feet above sea level to 3,247 feet, an increase of 1,845 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Flamstead, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles. However, the aircraft soon began another climb, this time from 3,900 feet to 35,411 feet, an increase of 31,511 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 111 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 3 miles north of Glossop, lasting 18 minutes and covering 131 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, starting 8 miles south east of Biggar, Scotland. The descent from 35,328 feet to 5,161 feet, a decrease of 30,167 feet in 16 minutes, covered a distance of 105 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise began again overhead Boat of Garten, lasting 2 minutes and covering 8 nautical miles. The final descent started 5 miles north west of Grantown on Spey, with the aircraft descending from 5,211 feet to 1,313 feet, a decrease of 3,898 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at Inverness Airport was made from the north east, with the aircraft heading 229.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,276 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 23 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 429 meters and a touchdown speed of 135 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was smooth at -112 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 11°C temperature and a wind speed of 19 knots at 220 degrees, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 19 knots. The total landing distance was 997 meters, accounting for 55% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 3 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 385 nautical miles, taking 74 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,975 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at EGPE Inverness Airport, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north east, heading 229.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,276 feet above ground level (agl). This positioning allowed the pilots to make a smooth and controlled descent onto the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 23, which has a length of 1,814 meters. The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the pilots maintained a safe distance from the runway threshold during their approach. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 143 kt, which may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate or the pilots' decision to maintain a higher speed for a smoother touchdown.
The touchdown distance of 429 meters was considered good, indicating that the pilots were able to control the aircraft's descent and maintain a stable approach. However, the touchdown speed of 135 kt was a little fast, which may have been due to the pilots' decision to prioritize a smooth touchdown over a slower speed. The touchdown rate of -112 fpm was reported as smooth, indicating that the pilots were able to control the aircraft's descent and maintain a stable rate of descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 19 kt from 220°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 kt and a headwind of 19 kt, which the pilots were able to effectively manage during their approach and landing. The total landing distance of 997 meters was 55% of the runway length, indicating that the pilots were able to control the aircraft's descent and maintain a stable approach.
The runway rollout alignment was reported as perfect, indicating that the pilots were able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and align the aircraft with the centerline of the runway. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the pilots demonstrating a high level of proficiency in their approach and landing procedures.
