Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,844 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 185 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Chicago Executive Airport, where it departed from runway 16. The takeoff distance covered 49% of the runway, and the aircraft lifted off at a speed of 146 kt. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 61 °F and a wind speed of 1 kt from a direction of 270 °, resulting in a negligible headwind and crosswind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile southeast of the airport, rising from an altitude of 1,724 ft above sea level to 6,966 ft above sea level, an increase of 5,242 ft in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nm. The enroute level cruise phase of the flight started overhead the town of Highwood, Illinois, and lasted for 9 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 42 nm.
The enroute descent phase of the flight began 2 miles west of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 6,995 ft above sea level to 1,993 ft above sea level, a decrease of 5,001 ft in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nm. The final approach to runway 07R at General Mitchell International Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 72.0 ° at an altitude of 1,250 ft above ground level and a distance of 4 nm from the runway.
The landing on runway 07R was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 99 kt and a distance of 175 ft. The touchdown rate was slightly hard at -457 fpm, but the runway touchdown position was only slightly misaligned from the centerline by 15 ft. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59 °F and a wind speed of 1 kt from a direction of 270 °, resulting in a negligible crosswind and a slight tailwind.
The total landing distance covered 22% of the runway, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nm. The total flight distance was 57 nm, and the flight duration was 22 minutes, with no fuel consumption reported.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed at KMKE General Mitchell International Airport, achieving a score of 96.1%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 72.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,250 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 07R, which has a length of 7,844 feet.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 100 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 175 feet was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 99 knots was also within acceptable limits. Unfortunately, the touchdown rate was hard at -457 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate a slightly aggressive approach.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 15 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or landing technique. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°. There was no crosswind, but a slight tailwind of 1 knot was present.
The total landing distance of 1,691 feet was 22% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score despite a few minor issues.
