Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,785 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,785 m of the 3,037 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 639 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, taking approximately 10 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 03, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 151 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius.
As the aircraft climbed out of Göteborg Landvetter Airport, it began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile north of the airport. The climb took place from an altitude of 465 meters above sea level to 11,587 meters above sea level, an increase of 11,122.5 meters, over a distance of 115 nautical miles, and took approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started approximately 5 miles northeast of Samsø Airfield in Denmark. This phase of the flight lasted for 18 minutes and covered a distance of 130 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started overhead Bargfeld-Stegen in Germany, and descended from 11,583 meters above sea level to 10,794 meters above sea level, a decrease of 789.7 meters, over a distance of 27 nautical miles, and took approximately 3 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started approximately 1 mile south of Wittorf in Germany. This phase of the flight lasted for 12 minutes and covered a distance of 90 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, which started approximately 1 mile east of Kalefeld in Germany, and climbed from 10,671 meters above sea level to 10,975 meters above sea level, an increase of 304.8 meters, over a distance of 12 nautical miles, and took approximately 2 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started approximately 2 miles northwest of Waake in Germany. This phase of the flight lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 52 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started approximately 2 miles west of Rasdorf in Germany, and descended from 10,980 meters above sea level to 841 meters above sea level, a decrease of 10,139.0 meters, over a distance of 121 nautical miles, and took approximately 24 minutes to complete.
The final approach to runway 25 at Stuttgart Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 252.0 degrees at an altitude of 458.5 meters above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around due to an unknown reason, and touched down at an altitude of 220.9 meters above ground level.
The aircraft then made a successful landing on runway 25 at Stuttgart Airport, with a touchdown speed of 132 knots and a touchdown rate of -1.3 meters per second. The touchdown point was 222 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius.
The total landing distance was 1,702 meters, which was 56% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 9.8 meters from the centerline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 6 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 562 nautical miles, and the flight took approximately 121 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a total of 3,806 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at EDDS Stuttgart Airport, achieving a score of 93.4%. The final approach to runway 25 was initiated from the east, with the aircraft heading 252.0° at an altitude of 458.5 meters above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 139 kt, which was within the acceptable threshold speed. The touchdown point was located 222 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 132 kt was also within the acceptable range, suggesting a controlled descent.
However, the touchdown rate of -1.3 m/s was only fair, indicating that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly higher rate of descent than desired. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, which was likely within the acceptable range for the aircraft's operation. The total landing distance of 1,702 meters was 56% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment with the runway centerline was slightly off by 9.8 meters, suggesting a slight deviation in the aircraft's direction of travel. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters.
