Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,802 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,802 m of the 3,289 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,284 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 777F, then departed from runway 17R at SCEL Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago, Chile. The takeoff distance was 2,245 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 189 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 32°C temperature and winds of 8 knots at 209 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 7 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile south of the airport, where the aircraft climbed from 2,581 feet above sea level to 28,021 feet above sea level, an increase of 25,440 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 100 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered 14 nautical miles, starting 7 miles west of SCOI Los Coipos Airport in Hualanne, Chile. The aircraft then climbed again, this time from 28,552 feet to 30,016 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,463 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles, starting 7 miles southeast of SCKN Licancel Airport in Licanten, Chile.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted for 183 minutes and covered 1,273 nautical miles, starting 14 miles northwest of SCLM Las Mercedes Airport in San Javier, Chile. The aircraft then climbed again, this time from 30,018 feet to 31,606 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,588 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles, starting at a latitude of -52.114725 and longitude of -90.3153048.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted for 215 minutes and covered 1,552 nautical miles, starting at a latitude of -52.2200732 and longitude of -90.6085791. The aircraft then climbed again, this time from 32,409 feet to 33,818 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,408 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles, starting at a latitude of -59.0937672 and longitude of -135.824836.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted for 277 minutes and covered 1,989 nautical miles, starting at a latitude of -59.090471 and longitude of -136.2325165. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 69 miles east of Akaroa, New Zealand, and descending from 33,709 feet above sea level to 1,426 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,283 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 95 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 02 at NZCH Christchurch International Airport was made from the southwest, heading 40.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,311 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 02, which had a length of 3,289 meters. The threshold height was well above target, and the threshold speed was also well above target at 162 knots.
The touchdown point was 881 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 146 knots and a touchdown rate of -192 feet per minute, both of which were good. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 27°C temperature and winds of 16 knots at
The Boeing 777F aircraft successfully landed at Christchurch International Airport, achieving an overall score of 81.7%. The final approach to runway 02 was initiated from the south-west, with a heading of 40.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,311 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 881 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the target. However, the touchdown speed of 146 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -192 feet per minute (fpm) was also satisfactory. The threshold height at 74 feet agl was above the target, and the threshold speed of 162 knots was also higher than expected.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 27°C, with a wind speed of 16 knots from a direction of 267°. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a tailwind of 11 knots. Despite these conditions, the pilot managed to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a safe landing.
The total landing distance of 1,735 meters was 53% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.1 meters from the centerline, indicating that the pilot may have experienced some difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the pilot demonstrated good control and judgment in executing a safe and relatively short landing. However, there is room for improvement in terms of precision and alignment during the rollout phase.
