Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 545 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 545 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 210 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The XCub aircraft departed from Courchevel Altiport, located in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France, on runway 04. The takeoff roll was smooth, and the aircraft lifted off the ground at a speed of 54 knots. The takeoff distance was 222 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were quite chilly, with a temperature of -6°C and a moderate wind blowing at 13 knots from a direction of 316°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began to ascend to a higher altitude. The enroute climb started overhead Courchevel, and the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 6,558 feet above sea level to 6,587 feet, an increase of 29 feet in less than a minute. This climb was quite steep, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, flying at a steady altitude for 2 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
After the cruise phase, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 22 at Courchevel Altiport. The approach was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 227.0° at an altitude of 218 feet above ground level and a distance of 1 nautical mile from the runway threshold. The landing was smooth, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 42 knots. The touchdown distance was good, at 208 meters, and the touchdown rate was perfect at 435 feet per minute.
However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline, by 10.1 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were similar to those at departure, with a temperature of -7°C and a moderate wind blowing at 10 knots from a direction of 317°. The aircraft experienced a slight tailwind of 1 knot during the landing. The total landing distance was 296 meters, accounting for 54% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline, by 8.1 meters.
The total flight distance was 2 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 4 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 1 kilogram of fuel during the flight. Overall, the flight was smooth and uneventful, with the aircraft performing well in the challenging weather conditions.
The XCub aircraft successfully landed at LFLJ Courchevel Altiport, achieving an overall score of 81.4%. The final approach to runway 22 was initiated from the north east, with a heading of 227.0° at 1 nautical mile and 218 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 545 meters.
The threshold height at 71 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired when reaching the runway threshold. However, the threshold speed of 61 knots was only slightly above the target, suggesting that the pilot maintained a good control of the aircraft's descent and speed. The touchdown distance of 208 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 42 knots was also within the acceptable range.
One of the notable aspects of this landing was the perfect touchdown rate of 435 feet per minute (fpm). This indicates that the aircraft touched down smoothly and without any significant deceleration. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind or tailwind conditions.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of -7°C and a wind speed of 10 knots from 317°. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. Despite these challenging conditions, the pilot managed to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a safe landing.
The total landing distance of 296 meters was 54% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and the wind conditions. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the pilot's difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and decision-making skills in challenging weather conditions.
