Improve the takeoff
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,366 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,366 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 433 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 25 at Merrill Field, PAMR. The aircraft, an SR22, required a takeoff distance of 1,383 feet, which was 35% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 85 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 60°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 269°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and a headwind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from Merrill Field, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead Anchorage, Alaska. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,115 feet above sea level to 8,794 feet, an increase of 7,679 feet in just 4 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The climb was followed by a level cruise, which began 2 miles southeast of Sky Harbor Airport, Anchorage. This cruise phase lasted for 6 minutes and covered a distance of 18 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started 3 miles southwest of Girdwood, Alaska. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 9,011 feet above sea level to 147 feet, a decrease of 8,864 feet in 10 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 18 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 22 at Whittier Airport, PAWR, was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 236.0° at an altitude of 98 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 22 at Whittier Airport was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 61 knots. The touchdown distance was 423 feet, which was good, and the touchdown rate was perfect at -13 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 11 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as at the time of departure, with a temperature of 60°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 269°.
The total landing distance was 1,169 feet, which was 86% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance was 45 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 23 minutes. The aircraft used 47 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The SR22 aircraft successfully landed at Whittier Airport's runway 22, achieving a high score of 93.2%. The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 236.0° at 0 nm and 98 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach to the runway was precise, with a good threshold height, indicating that the pilot maintained a suitable altitude before touching down.
Upon landing, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 67 kn, but still within a safe range. The touchdown distance of 423 ft was also good, indicating that the pilot managed to slow down the aircraft effectively before touching down. The touchdown speed of 61 kn was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -13 fpm was perfect, signifying a smooth and controlled descent.
However, there was a slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft touching down 11 ft off the centreline. This may be attributed to the pilot's judgment or the aircraft's response to the crosswind. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 60°F and a gentle wind of 2 kn at 269°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 kn, and the headwind component was 2 kn, which likely contributed to the smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 1,169 ft was 86% of the runway length, indicating that the pilot managed to slow down the aircraft effectively and maintain control throughout the landing process. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and aligned it with the centreline. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and judgment in navigating the aircraft to a safe touchdown.
