Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 6,805 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,109 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KROC Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport. This process took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 22, and the takeoff distance was 3,276 feet, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 17 °F and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 300 °. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 0 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southwest of the airport and rising from an altitude of 1,547 feet above sea level to 17,476 feet above sea level, an increase of 15,929 feet in 8 minutes and covering a distance of 41 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 15 nautical miles. This phase began 2 miles west of Avoca, New York. The enroute descent phase started 2 miles east of NY34 Randall's Roost Airport Cameron, New York, and involved a descent from 17,380 feet above sea level to 1,726 feet above sea level, a decrease of 15,654 feet in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 59 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at KIPT Williamsport Regional Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 257.0 ° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,209 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 6,805 feet, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was also good at 134 knots, and the touchdown distance was 1,108 feet, which was 45% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 123 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm at -373 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 14 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16 °F and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 279 °. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The total landing distance was 3,084 feet, and the runway rollout alignment was very good.
The final phase of the flight involved taxiing to the parking area from the runway, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 122 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 42 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 4,031 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at KIPT Williamsport Regional Airport, achieving a score of 97.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 257.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,209 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the local weather conditions.
The temperature at the time of landing was 16°F, and the wind was blowing at 8 knots from a direction of 279°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. Despite these conditions, the pilot maintained control of the aircraft and executed a smooth landing. The threshold speed was good at 134 knots, and the touchdown distance was also within acceptable limits at 1,108 feet.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 123 knots, which is considered good. The touchdown rate was firm at -373 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 14 feet from the centreline. This minor deviation did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing.
The total landing distance was 3,084 feet, which is 45% of the runway length. This is a relatively short distance, indicating a well-executed landing. The runway rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the critical phase of landing.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated excellent skills and control throughout the approach and landing phases. The minor deviation from the centreline was the only notable issue, but it did not compromise the safety or effectiveness of the landing.
