Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,743 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,743 m of the 3,037 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 428 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 04R, and the takeoff distance was 1,578 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 143 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and winds of 9 knots at a direction of 90 degrees. The crosswind was 6 knots, and the headwind was also 6 knots. After departing from Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile east of the airport and continued for 17 minutes, covering a distance of 93 nautical miles. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 638 feet above sea level to 30,585 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,948 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile southwest of Cuccaro Monferrato in Italy and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 126 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 3 miles south of Vorderthal in Switzerland and continued for 19 minutes, covering a distance of 100 nautical miles. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 30,514 feet above sea level to 2,472 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,042 feet.
As the aircraft approached Stuttgart Airport, it began its final approach to runway 25 from the east, heading at 254.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,233 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The local weather conditions at Stuttgart Airport were characterized by a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius and winds of 6 knots at a direction of 330 degrees. The crosswind was 6 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots.
The aircraft landed on runway 25, which had a length of 3,037 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, and the threshold speed was good at 130 knots. The touchdown distance was also good at 427 meters, and the touchdown speed was 127 knots. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -425 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 328 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 67 minutes. The aircraft used 3,081 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 25 at EDDS Stuttgart Airport, achieving a score of 86.3%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 254.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,233 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft's performance during the landing was satisfactory, with the threshold height being well above the target, indicating a safe margin for the aircraft to touch down. The threshold speed was also good, at 130 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing. The touchdown distance of 427 meters was also within the expected range, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down smoothly and maintain control.
However, the touchdown rate was reported to be hard, at -425 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate that the aircraft touched down with a higher than ideal rate. This could be due to various factors, including the aircraft's descent rate, airspeed, or the pilot's control inputs. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 330°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions were relatively calm, which may have contributed to the smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 1,659 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and align with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a good score. However, the hard touchdown rate may require further investigation to determine the cause and to identify areas for improvement.
