Improve the touchdown
There are several things that can go wrong during the flare, carrying too much speed over the threshold, starting the flare at the wrong height and inconsistent flight control inputs, all contribute to a poor flare resulting in a hard touchdown or a float down the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,238 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 333 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320-ceo taxied from the parking area to runway 04R at LFMN Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport in 31 minutes, covering a ground distance of 7 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 04R, the aircraft used 1,665 m of runway, representing 56 % of the available length, and lifted off at 166 kt; ambient temperature was 29 °C with a wind of 5 kt from 160°, a 5 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt tail-wind component.
The initial climb commenced overhead LFMN, climbing from 953 ft asl to 10,012 ft asl-a gain of 9,059 ft-in 4 minutes while traversing 16 nm.
Level cruise began 2 mi south-east of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and lasted 2 minutes, during which 9 nm were covered.
A subsequent climb started over Cantaron, raising the aircraft from 10,012 ft asl to 30,009 ft asl, an increase of 19,997 ft achieved in 12 minutes over a distance of 77 nm.
Cruise continued overhead Cesana Torinese for 15 minutes, covering 104 nm at level flight.
Descent began over Jaun, descending from 29,988 ft asl to 5,003 ft asl, a loss of 24,985 ft in 20 minutes while flying 124 nm.
A brief climb followed over Forch, raising the aircraft from 5,005 ft asl to 7,007 ft asl, a gain of 2,002 ft in 3 minutes across 13 nm.
Level cruise resumed over Hochfelden for 5 minutes, during which 21 nm were flown.
Descent over Veltheim reduced altitude from 7,011 ft asl to 6,006 ft asl, a decrease of 1,006 ft in 2 minutes covering 7 nm.
Another cruise segment over Wohlen lasted 6 minutes and spanned 25 nm.
The final descent started 1 mi south of Uetikon, dropping from 5,763 ft asl to 2,847 ft asl, a loss of 2,916 ft in 3 minutes while covering 10 nm.
On final approach to runway 34 at LSZH Zürich Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,493 ft agl to 62 ft agl in 99 seconds; the approach was recorded as scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 34 was executed with a threshold speed of 139 kt; touchdown occurred 330 m down the runway at 136 kt with a firm rate of minus 392 fpm, and the aircraft aligned perfectly with the centreline. Local conditions were 26 °C, wind 4 kt from 340°, with no cross-wind and a 4 kt head-wind component.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the total landing distance measured 1,309 m, representing 40 % of the runway length.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 4,223 minutes, covering a ground distance of 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 420 nm, required 88 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 0 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320-ceo executed a stabilised approach to runway 34 at LSZH Zürich Airport, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits at the 1 000 ft gate. Descent was from 1 493 ft AGL to 62 ft AGL in 99 seconds and the approach earned full marks on the stabilisation gates, contributing to an overall score of 96.5 %.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was good at 139 kt. The aircraft crossed the threshold and began the flare, achieving a touchdown point 330 m down the runway. The flare was performed with a touchdown speed of 136 kt, noted as a little fast, and a firm touchdown rate of -392 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
Touchdown occurred with the aircraft aligned precisely on the centreline, confirming the perfect runway touchdown alignment. The firm rate of -392 fpm and the slightly high speed of 136 kt were recorded, while the overall touchdown point remained within the expected zone.
Rollout proceeded straight down the centreline with perfect alignment. Total landing distance was 1 309 m, representing 40 % of the 3 238 m runway, and the aircraft remained on the runway without deviation.
To refine the already strong performance, focus on reducing touchdown speed toward the target VREF to lessen the firm rate of -392 fpm. A slightly slower flare will help achieve a smoother touchdown while maintaining the excellent alignment already demonstrated.
