Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,099 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,099 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 171 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight began with the GA-8 Airvan Commuter aircraft, designated as N13AV, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at a relatively short distance, less than 1 nautical mile, which took less than 1 minute. The aircraft departed from runway 26 at EGNS Isle of Man Airport, requiring a takeoff distance of just 267 meters, which accounted for 18% of the runway's length. Upon takeoff, the aircraft attained a liftoff speed of 62 knots.
As the aircraft completed its initial ascent, local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270 degrees. With a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 2 knots, the pilot began a left-hand pattern entry from runway 26. This maneuver covered a distance of under 1 nautical mile in just 13 seconds. Following the pattern entry, the aircraft performed a left-hand pattern crosswind, with a distance of under 1 nautical mile covered in 30 seconds.
The next phase of the flight involved a pattern downwind turn, during which the aircraft maintained an angle of 45 degrees relative to the runway and a distance of 0 nautical miles. The pilot then initiated a final approach to runway 03 at EGNS Isle of Man Airport, with a heading of 34.0 degrees in the south-west direction at an altitude of 85 feet above ground level, at a position 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 03, which was 1,099 meters in length, was executed with good threshold height and slightly below target threshold speed at 62 knots. The aircraft touched down 169 meters from the runway threshold, achieving a touchdown speed of 53 knots and an excellent touchdown rate of -62 feet per minute. Moreover, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
During the entire flight, the same local weather conditions persisted, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270 degrees, featuring a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. The total flight distance was 2 nautical miles, and the entire flight lasted 6 minutes. Furthermore, the aircraft used approximately 4 kilograms of fuel throughout this trip.
Report on GA-8 Airvan Commuter N13AV Landing at EGNS Isle of Man Airport:
The GA-8 Airvan Commuter N13AV successfully landed at EGNS Isle of Man Airport, achieving a remarkable score of 93.6%. The aircraft completed its final approach to runway 03 from the south west, aligning itself precisely with the heading of 34.0 ° at an altitude of 85 ft and 0 nm.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down smoothly, demonstrating exceptional control and precision. The threshold height was deemed good, indicating that the aircraft maintained a stable altitude before touching down. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed, coming in at 62 kt, which is a minor deviation.
In terms of touchdown distance, the aircraft performed well, maintaining a safe and controlled descent to touch down at 169 m, which is a respectable distance considering the runway length of 1,099 m. The touchdown speed itself was also within acceptable parameters, reaching only 53 kt, showcasing excellent control and a smooth landing. Furthermore, the touch down rate was exceptional, with an impressive -62 fpm, illustrating the pilot's skill in maintaining a stable and controlled descent.
The landing was further enhanced by the aircraft's perfect alignment with the runway when touching down, indicating that the pilot maintained precise control over the aircraft's roll and heading, and local weather conditions were favorable at the time, with a relatively stable temperature of 15 °C and minimal wind of only 2 kt at 270 °, with only a slight tailwind of 1 kt and negligible crosswind of 2 kt. Overall, the landing was a testament to the pilot's exceptional skill and the aircraft's performance capabilities.
