Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,683 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,683 m of the 3,100 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 612 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 05 at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ), with the aircraft taking off after covering 41 meters, or 1% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 11 knots blowing at an angle of 40 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 11 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb shortly after departing the airport, rising from an altitude of 1,589 feet above sea level to 34,662 feet, an increase of 33,073 feet, in 23 minutes and covering a distance of 133 nautical miles.
The enroute climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which started approximately 3 miles southwest of Wilcox, Pennsylvania, and lasted for 77 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 620 nautical miles. The cruise phase was interrupted by a series of climbs and descents, with the aircraft ascending from 35,558 feet to 37,331 feet in 3 minutes and covering 28 nautical miles, and then descending from 38,092 feet to 15,617 feet in 11 minutes and covering 73 nautical miles.
The aircraft continued its descent from 15,081 feet to 7,215 feet in 5 minutes and covering 21 nautical miles, and then leveled off for a brief period before descending from 6,559 feet to 3,054 feet in 3 minutes and covering 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off once more before descending from 3,055 feet to 1,362 feet in 3 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08 at Punta Cana International Airport (MDPC) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading at an angle of 74.0 degrees and flying at an altitude of 1,311 feet above ground level. The landing took place on the runway, with the aircraft touching down 200 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target speed, but the touchdown rate was good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 11 knots blowing at an angle of 40 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. The total landing distance was 1,606 meters, or 52% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft was able to taxi to the parking area in 10 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,656 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 258 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 10,025 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at MDPC Punta Cana International Airport, achieving a score of 96.1%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 74.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,311 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 08, which has a length of 3,100 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down slightly beyond the touchdown zone, 200 meters past the designated area. The touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly above the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been able to make adjustments to reduce the speed before touchdown. The touchdown rate of -192 feet per minute (fpm) was considered good, indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 25°C and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 40°. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 9 knots, which the pilot successfully managed during the landing. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.0 meters, but the rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down on the runway and coming to a stop within a reasonable distance. The pilot's ability to manage the wind and maintain control of the aircraft during the landing roll were key factors in the successful outcome.
