Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 910 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 910 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 324 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDLO Oerlinghausen Airfield took approximately 4 minutes, covering a short distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The Cessna C172 then began its departure roll on runway 04, utilizing 339 meters, or 57% of the runway, to achieve liftoff at a speed of 70 knots. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 13°C, with a gentle wind of 3 knots at 23°, resulting in a 2-knot headwind and a negligible crosswind.
As the aircraft climbed away from Oerlinghausen, it transitioned into an enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 2,296 feet above sea level from an initial 1,324 feet in just 1 minute, while covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. Following this climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, maintaining a steady altitude for 25 minutes as it covered a distance of 45 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 05 at EDLA Arnsberg-Menden Airfield was initiated from the southwest, with the aircraft descending from 1 nautical mile and 357 feet above ground level.
The Cessna C172 landed safely on runway 05, utilizing 322 meters of the available 910-meter runway length. The touchdown speed of 53 knots was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -172 feet per minute was also satisfactory. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 9 meters. Following a brief taxiing period of less than 1 minute, covering a short distance of less than 1 nautical mile, the aircraft came to a stop in the parking area. The total flight distance of 50 nautical miles was achieved in 33 minutes, with the aircraft consuming 13 kilograms of fuel.
The final approach to runway 05 at EDLA Arnsberg-Menden Airfield from the south west was executed with a heading of 47.0° at 1 nm and 357 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 65 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal approach speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated good characteristics, with a touchdown distance of 322 m and a touchdown speed of 53 kt, both of which were within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -172 fpm was also good, indicating a controlled descent. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.0 m from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path or a miscalculation of the landing distance. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 13 °C and a light wind of 3 kt at 23°, contributed to a relatively stable approach environment.
The overall performance of the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 95.4%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal approach and touchdown characteristics, the aircraft's handling and control were maintained throughout the landing sequence. The pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed and position during the approach and touchdown phases was evident, despite the slight misalignment of the touchdown position.
