Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,190 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 518 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking to the runway at KBOS Logan International Airport, taking 22 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 22R, with a takeoff distance of 1,266 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 143 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 0°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 130 degrees. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started overhead the MA17 Avco/Lowell Heliport in Lowell, Massachusetts, where the aircraft climbed from 1,014 feet above sea level to 31,497 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,483 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 67 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 6 miles northeast of New Shoreham, Rhode Island, and lasted for 4 minutes, covering 27 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb 2 miles west of Montauk, New York, where it climbed from 31,545 feet above sea level to 33,433 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,888 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Sagaponack, New York, and lasted for 27 minutes, covering 171 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent 4 miles southeast of Cape May, New Jersey, where it descended from 33,145 feet above sea level to 8,178 feet above sea level, a decrease of 24,967 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 74 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles southeast of 6MD5 Shady Side Churchton, Maryland, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 3 miles southeast of Marlboro Meadows, Maryland, where it descended from 8,172 feet above sea level to 2,522 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,650 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead North Bethesda, Maryland, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent overhead Cabin John, Maryland, where it descended from 2,521 feet above sea level to 168 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,354 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 19 at KDCA Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was made from the north, heading 176.0 degrees at 0 nautical miles and 146 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 19, which had a length of 2,190 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was too high at 164 knots.
The touchdown point was 108 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 152 knots, which was fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -350 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 4°C temperature and a wind speed of 12 knots at 160 degrees, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 12 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,228 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 405 nautical
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) on runway 19. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 176.0° at an altitude of 146 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft maintained a good alignment with the runway during the approach, resulting in a very good runway touchdown alignment.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft was 108 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center but still within an acceptable range. The touchdown speed of 152 knots was higher than the recommended threshold speed of 164 knots, indicating that the aircraft could have been slowed down more effectively during the approach. However, the touchdown rate of -350 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain control and stability during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 12 knots from a direction of 160°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 12 knots, which helped to reduce the aircraft's ground speed and make the landing more manageable.
The total landing distance of 1,228 meters was 56% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase of the landing.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, such as slowing down the aircraft more effectively during the approach and reducing the touchdown speed. However, the aircraft's performance was still within acceptable limits, and the landing was completed safely and efficiently.
