Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,011 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,011 m of the 2,700 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,395 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 06 at Carrasco General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport, also known as SUMU. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, accelerated down the runway and lifted off the ground at a speed of 134 kt. The takeoff distance was a relatively short 65 meters, which is only 2% of the runway's total length.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 21 °C and a gentle wind of 6 kt from a direction of 29 °. The crosswind component was 3 kt, while the headwind component was 6 kt. The aircraft climbed from an initial altitude of 933 ft above sea level to 282 ft asl, an increase of 651 ft over a distance of 2 nm in just 2 minutes.
The enroute climb took the aircraft over the town of Colonia Nicolich in the Departamento de Canelones, Uruguay. From there, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 06 at SUMU, descending from an altitude of 190 ft above ground level and heading in a southeasterly direction at 27.0 °. The aircraft was at 0 nm from the runway threshold when it started its final approach.
However, the landing was not without its issues. The threshold height was excessively high at 130 ft agl, and the threshold speed was too high at 142 kt. The touchdown point was 769 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 113 kt. The touchdown rate was also heavy at -608 fpm. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.8 meters from the centerline.
Despite these issues, the runway rollout alignment was very good, and the total landing distance was 1,720 meters, which is 64% of the runway's total length. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 174 minutes and covered less than 1 nm. The total flight distance was a relatively short 3 nm, and the flight used 73 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft has successfully landed at SUMU Carrasco General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach to runway 06 was initiated from the south east, heading 27.0° at an altitude of 190 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft touched down on the runway, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters.
One of the key issues was the excessive height at the threshold, which was 130 feet agl, significantly above the target height. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 142 knots, indicating that the aircraft was not fully configured for landing. The touchdown point was 769 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the ideal landing spot. Furthermore, the touchdown speed of 113 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -608 feet per minute, indicating a hard landing.
The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 4.8 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the deviations in the landing parameters. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 21°C and a wind speed of 6 knots at 29°. The crosswind was minimal at 3 knots, and the headwind was 6 knots, which may have contributed to the deviations in the landing parameters.
Overall, while the aircraft was able to land safely, there are areas for improvement in terms of landing technique and adherence to standard procedures. The pilots may need to review and refine their landing approach to achieve a more ideal touchdown point, speed, and rate.
