Settle the descent rate
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate 1,480 ft/m, more than the glideslope needed, glideslope 5.7° against the runway's 3° and centreline 8.0° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,768 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 683 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The TBM 850 departed EGAC George Best Belfast City Airport from runway 22, using a take-off distance of 788 m which represented 43 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 91 kt. Ambient conditions were 16 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced one mile east of Belfast, with the aircraft accelerating from 1,082 ft asl to 3,790 ft asl, an altitude gain of 2,708 ft. The climb was completed in 2 minutes while covering 5 nm.
The first cruise segment began two miles north-east of Lisburn and lasted 3 minutes, during which 12 nm were flown at level altitude.
Descent over Carnmoney started from 3,462 ft asl and reduced to 2,724 ft asl, a loss of 738 ft. This descent took 2 minutes and spanned 6 nm.
A second cruise phase was flown overhead Belfast, lasting 2 minutes and covering 6 nm at constant altitude.
The next descent began three miles south of Templepatrick, descending from 2,405 ft asl to 842 ft asl, a decrease of 1,562 ft. The aircraft covered 5 nm in 2 minutes during this segment.
Final approach to runway 25 at EGAA Belfast International Airport involved a descent from 1,195 ft agl to 223 ft agl in 55 seconds, and the approach was recorded as having met the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 25 was performed with a runway length of 2,768 m. The threshold height of 79 ft agl was above the target, while the threshold speed was 92 kt. Touchdown occurred 246 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 70 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 294 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 5.6 m from the centreline. Local weather at the time was 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 269°, a 1 kt cross-wind and a 2 kt head-wind component.
The total landing roll measured 1,047 m, representing 38 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was reported as very good.
Taxi-in from the runway to the parking area required 1 minute and covered less than 1 nm.
In summary, the flight covered 37 nm, required 13 minutes of airborne time and consumed 39 kg of fuel.
The TBM 850 conducted the final approach to runway 25 at EGAA Belfast International Airport, descending from 1,195 ft agl to 223 ft agl in 55 seconds while the ambient temperature was 15 °C, wind was 2 kt from 269°, with a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component; the approach was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the aircraft was 79 ft agl, which was well above the target height, and the threshold speed was good at 92 kt.
Touchdown occurred 246 m beyond the touchdown zone with a good speed of 70 kt; the vertical rate was fair at minus 294 fpm and the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 5.6 m from the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,047 m, representing 38 % of the 2,768 m runway, and the runway rollout alignment was very good.
To improve the score, the crew should aim to achieve the prescribed threshold height to reduce the excess altitude at crossing, and adjust the flare to place the touchdown point nearer the intended aim point while maintaining the current good speed and alignment.
