Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,597 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 368 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 28 at Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,007 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 140 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 180 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport. The climb took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 19 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,040 feet above sea level to 14,750 feet above sea level, an increase of 13,711 feet. Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which lasted for 13 minutes and covered a distance of 67 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place 1 mile south east of Rapallo, Italy.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started 2 miles south of Livorno, Italy. The descent took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 12 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 14,809 feet above sea level to 420 feet above sea level, a decrease of 14,389 feet. The final approach to runway 22L at Pisa International Airport was made from the north east, with the aircraft heading 217.0 degrees at an altitude of 404 feet above ground level and 1 nautical mile from the runway.
The landing on runway 22L was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 137 knots and a distance of 366 meters. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -556 feet per minute, and the touchdown speed was a little fast. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 270 degrees.
Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 5 minutes and covered 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 103 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 39 minutes. The aircraft used 289 kilograms of fuel during the flight. Overall, the flight was successful, with good runway alignment and a smooth landing.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Pisa International Airport (LIRP) on runway 22L, achieving a score of 95.1%. The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 217.0° at 1 nautical mile and 404 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady course, taking advantage of the favorable wind conditions, with a 3-knot headwind and a 5-knot crosswind.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold height was well within the acceptable range, and the threshold speed was above the target speed of 144 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 137 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -556 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the touchdown distance of 366 meters was considered good, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C and a light wind of 6 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions likely contributed to the aircraft's stable approach and touchdown.
The total landing distance of 1,355 meters was 52% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, allowing for a stable and controlled rollout.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 95.1%. However, the slightly fast touchdown speed and hard touchdown rate may be areas for improvement in future landings.
