Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,280 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,280 ft of the 10,483 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,332 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (KATL) on runway 26L, the Airbus A321 began its journey with a taxiing period of 15 minutes, covering 3 nautical miles to reach the runway. Following a smooth departure roll, the aircraft lifted off at a speed of 156 knots, utilizing 61% of the 6,125-foot runway. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 79°F, with a gentle headwind of 3 knots and a crosswind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it passed overhead College Park, Georgia, and continued to ascend to 37,015 feet above sea level, a gain of 35,009 feet in 21 minutes, covering 137 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase commenced 1 mile northeast of Louisville, Tennessee, and lasted for 55 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 411 nautical miles. Subsequently, the aircraft began its descent from 37,012 feet above sea level to 1,857 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,155 feet in 23 minutes, covering 140 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 05 at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) was initiated from the southwest, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 46.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,301 feet above ground level.
The Airbus A321 landed on runway 05 at CYYZ, utilizing 60% of the 10,483-foot runway. The touchdown point was 1,294 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 133 knots, slightly above the target. The touchdown rate was firm at -350 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. Following a taxiing period of 3 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile, the aircraft arrived at the parking area. The total flight distance was 698 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 2 hours and 17 minutes, and a fuel consumption of 10,574 pounds.
The aircraft touched down on runway 05 at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport, marking a successful conclusion to the approach from the south west. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a heading of 46.0° at 4 nm and 1,301 ft above ground level. The threshold speed was well within the target range at 138 kt, indicating a smooth transition from the approach to the touchdown phase.
The touchdown characteristics were notable, with a speed of 133 kt being slightly above the ideal range. However, the touchdown rate of -350 fpm was firm, suggesting a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft aligning precisely with the centreline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 39°F and a gentle headwind of 4 kt, contributed to a stable and predictable approach.
The total landing distance of 6,342 ft was 60% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short rollout. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 33 ft from the centreline, which may be attributed to a slight deviation during the final stages of the approach. Overall, the landing was deemed successful, with a score of 90.9% reflecting the satisfactory approach quality and controlled touchdown.
