Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,705 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,705 m of the 2,790 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 618 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport, taking 14 minutes and covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 04R, with a takeoff distance of 1,604 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 175 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a height of 34,110 feet, it encountered local weather conditions of 14°C temperature and winds of 8 knots at 19°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 7 knots. The enroute climb started over Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport and continued for 22 minutes, covering a distance of 128 nautical miles and increasing the aircraft's altitude by 33,062 feet.
The enroute level cruise began over Corbetta, Italy, and lasted for 49 minutes, covering a distance of 372 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent over Hardegsen, Germany, and descended from 34,543 feet to 6,495 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, this time over Wohldorf-Ohlstedt, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The enroute descent started over Stapelfeld, Germany, and the aircraft descended from 6,493 feet to 3,980 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, this time over Meddewade, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The enroute descent started over Elmenhorst, Germany, and the aircraft descended from 3,791 feet to 1,327 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport was made from the north-east, heading 230.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway length of 2,790 meters, with a threshold height of 57 feet above ground level, which was slightly above the target. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 137 knots.
The touchdown point was 197 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 128 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -217 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -1°C temperature and winds of 1 knot at 243°, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,619 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 664 nautical miles, taking 119 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,153 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, achieving a score of 96.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 230.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 23, which has a length of 2,790 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down slightly beyond the touchdown zone, 197 meters past the designated area. The touchdown speed of 128 knots was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -217 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of -1°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 243°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and a slight headwind of 1 knot. The aircraft's performance was not significantly affected by the weather conditions.
The total landing distance of 1,619 meters was 58% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient stopping distance to safely come to a stop. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and stability during the landing phase.
