Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,658 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,658 m of the 2,483 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 259 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the departure roll from Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport's runway 04R, with an Airbus A321 taking off into a relatively calm local weather condition - 21°C temperature, a 7-kt headwind, and a negligible 2-knot crosswind. The aircraft lifted off the runway quickly, achieving a liftoff speed of 153 kt.
As the Airbus A321 started its enroute climb, it initially ascended from an altitude of 1,030 ft to 9,987 ft within a short 4 minutes and 12 nm span. The flight then transitioned to a level cruise approximately 2 miles south-east of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in France, lasting for 2 minutes while covering 9 nm. This was short-lived as the aircraft began its next climb from an altitude of 9,981 ft to 34,990 ft within an extended 16 minutes and a significant 111-nm distance, crossing over Cantaron in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region, France.
After levelling out at 34,990 ft, the A321 continued its journey, cruising over the Les Chapelles region in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France for 20 minutes while covering a considerable 140 nm. The aircraft then began its initial descent from an altitude of 35,465 ft to 20,065 ft within 5 minutes and 38 nm. Level cruising continued once more, this time from an altitude of 1 mile north of Inzigkofen, covering 10 nm while lasting 2 minutes.
As the A321 flew into the Germany region, it started its descent over Bitz in the Baden-Wuerttemberg region from an altitude of 19,829 ft to 7,023 ft within a duration of 7 minutes and a distance of 42 nm. The aircraft continued to level out and cruise from an altitude of 2 miles north-west of Birkenfeld, covering 6 nm while lasting 2 minutes. Following its final descent from an altitude of 6,554 ft to 1,714 ft within a duration of 7 minutes and 17 nm, the aircraft headed north-east toward runway 21 of Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport.
Upon approaching the runway, the A321 continued its final descent, heading towards it from the north-east at a distance of 4 nm and an altitude of 1,302 ft above ground level. The aircraft landed smoothly on runway 21 with an available runway length of 2,483 m, with both the threshold height and speed remaining good. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 kt, and the touchdown rate was firm at -368 fpm.
Additionally, the aircraft slightly veered off the centreline, ending its rollout at 5.3 m off-centre. With the runway touchdown distance recorded at a mere 206 m, the total landing distance was 1,617 m, accounting for approximately 65% of the available runway. Upon landing, the aircraft showed excellent runway rollout alignment. The entire flight journey covered a total distance of 393 nm and lasted for 1 hour and 7 minutes, utilising approximately 218 kg of fuel during the flight. Taxiing to the designated parking area took approximately 4 minutes and less than 1 nautical mile.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at EDSB Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airport with a score of 92.4%. The flight was approaching the runway 21 from the north east, flying at a heading of 212.0° at an altitude of 1,302 feet above ground level (agl) and at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 132 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown distance was measured at 206 meters, indicating that the pilot had landed smoothly. However, the touchdown speed was a bit high, which could have led to a slightly firmer landing. The touchdown rate was -368 feet per minute (fpm), which was firm but not excessive.
Upon examination of the landing data, it appears that the pilot may have made a minor error with the alignment of the aircraft on the runway. Although the runway touchdown position was only 5.3 meters off from the centerline, any deviation from the perfect centerline can be considered a slight issue with the overall landing performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were pleasant, with a temperature of 11°C. This temperature range is typical of moderate spring or fall weather, and it's likely that the pilot had no issues with visibility or wind resistance.
During the rollout on the runway, the aircraft's alignment was very good. The total landing distance measured 1,617 meters, which is roughly 65% of the runway length. Given the runway's length of 2,483 meters, this was a relatively good performance.
