Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,536 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,536 m of the 3,185 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 459 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight commenced with the Airbus A321 taking off from runway 26L at London Gatwick Airport. It accelerated down the 1,850-meter runway, covering 74% of its length, before lifting off at a speed of 179 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 191 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 13 knots and a headwind of 6 knots.
The enroute climb phase of the flight began as the aircraft rose from an initial altitude of 1,244 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 34,096 feet at an average rate of climb of nearly 1,600 feet per minute over a period of 21 minutes, covering a distance of approximately 119 nautical miles. The climb phase took the aircraft over the town of Charlwood in Surrey, England.
Upon completing the climb phase, the aircraft entered level cruise, flying at an altitude of 34,096 feet for a period of 133 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 1,051 nautical miles, heading west of Alderney Airport in Guernsey.
The enroute descent phase of the flight began approximately 14 miles east of Sidi Bennour in Morocco. Over a period of 32 minutes, the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,781 feet to 1,534 feet, a decrease of over 34,200 feet, while covering a distance of approximately 157 nautical miles. The descent phase ultimately set the stage for the final approach phase of the flight.
The aircraft made the final approach to runway 27 at Al Massira Airport from the east, heading in the direction of 272 degrees. At 4 nautical miles from the airport, the aircraft was flying at an altitude of 1,295 feet above ground level. The landing conditions were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a wind of 17 knots from a direction of 180 degrees, resulting in a strong crosswind of 17 knots and a negligible headwind of 0 knots.
The aircraft landed safely on runway 27, although with a slightly misaligned touchdown point being 55 meters beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 134 knots. The touchdown rate was relatively high at 224 feet per minute, while the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.2 meters from the runway centerline.
Following the landing, the aircraft continued down the runway for a further 1,466 meters before coming to a stop, covering 46% of the runway length during the rollout phase. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned, deviating by 13.2 meters from the centerline. The flight taxied to its parking position from the runway, taking approximately 3 minutes to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 1,334 nautical miles, took a total time of 193 minutes, and consumed 7,631 kilograms of fuel during its journey.
The Airbus A321 successfully executed a landing at GMAD Al Massira Airport, achieving a score of 95.5%. The aircraft's final approach was directed towards runway 27, located at an initial distance of 4 nm and 1,295 ft above ground level (agl) to the east, with a heading of 272.0°.
The landing was carried out on a runway with a length of 3,185 m, where the threshold height was maintained at a good level. The threshold speed, recorded at 141 kt, was also within the desired range. The aircraft touched down 55 m beyond the designated touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 134 kt, which is acceptable, however the touchdown rate, at -224 feet per minute (fpm), was considered fair.
Upon landing, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned with the centreline, deviating by approximately 3.2 m. This minor deviation, coupled with the runway rollout alignment being off-centre by 13.2 m, indicates a slight compromise on the alignment of the aircraft during the landing roll. Nonetheless, the landing performance was satisfactory, considering the given flight conditions.
The local weather was characterized by a warm temperature of 28 °C and a gentle breeze of 17 kt from 180°. The presence of a headwind of 0 kt and a moderate crosswind of 17 kt further affected the aircraft's control during landing.
The total landing distance of 1,466 m equates to 46% of the runway length, demonstrating a manageable deceleration of the aircraft after touchdown.
