Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,100 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 505 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 08R at Miami International Airport (KMIA). The takeoff distance was 2,015 meters, which accounted for 63% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and winds of 11 knots at 79 degrees. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind was 11 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile southwest of Brownsville, Florida, and reached an altitude of 38,510 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,471 feet from the initial altitude of 1,039 feet. This climb took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 148 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started over Andros Town in the Bahamas and lasted for 71 minutes, covering a distance of 518 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent over Joba Arriba in the Dominican Republic, descending from 38,324 feet to 1,250 feet above sea level, a decrease of 37,074 feet in 22 minutes and covering 119 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08 at Punta Cana International Airport (MDPC) was made from the west, heading 74.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,198 feet above ground level. The landing was made on a runway with a length of 3,100 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 134 knots. The touchdown point was 94 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 128 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -246 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 11.2 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and winds of 13 knots at 110 degrees, with a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,357 meters, which accounted for 44% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 8 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 797 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 136 minutes. The aircraft used 5,290 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at MDPC Punta Cana International Airport, achieving a score of 95.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 74.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,198 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 08, which has a length of 3,100 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down slightly beyond the touchdown zone, 94 meters past the designated area. The touchdown speed of 128 knots was slightly above the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been able to make adjustments to reduce the speed before touchdown. The touchdown rate of -246 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft was able to slow down relatively quickly after touchdown.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline, deviating by 5.1 meters. This may have been due to the crosswind, which was 8 knots, or the headwind, which was 11 knots. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 31°C and a wind speed of 13 knots at 110°, may have also contributed to the slight misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,357 meters was 44% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop relatively quickly after touchdown. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline, deviating by 11.2 meters. This may have been due to the pilot's efforts to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 95.5%. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed, touchdown position, and runway rollout alignment, which may be addressed in future training or operations.
