See Departure Roll
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 6,979 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,395 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 25R at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The takeoff distance was 7,722 feet, which was 75% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 176 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 72°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 240°. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Central City, Arizona, and ascending from an altitude of 2,108 feet above sea level to 34,840 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,731 feet in 22 minutes and covering a distance of 157 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting 8 miles southeast of the White Mountain Ultralightport Show Low, Arizona. This phase lasted for 33 minutes and covered a distance of 299 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, starting 5 miles southeast of the Clavel Ranch Airport Roy, New Mexico, and ascending from 34,999 feet above sea level to 36,587 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,588 feet in 3 minutes and covering a distance of 33 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 13 miles southwest of Texline, Texas, and lasting for 163 minutes, covering a distance of 1,403 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 2 miles east of Altamont, New York, and descending from 36,571 feet above sea level to 1,321 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,250 feet in 29 minutes and covering a distance of 160 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at Logan International Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 256.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,293 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 6,979 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 146 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 1,401 feet, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 143 knots. The touchdown rate was good at -189 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 36°F and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 270°. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 4,683 feet, which was 67% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 2,062 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 260 minutes. The aircraft used 22,740 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at KBOS Logan International Airport on runway 27, achieving a score of 99.8%. The final approach was conducted from the east, heading 256.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,293 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 146 kt, which may have been due to the aircraft's weight or other factors. Despite this, the touchdown distance of 1,401 feet was within acceptable limits.
The touchdown speed of 143 kt was a little fast, which may have resulted in a slightly higher deceleration rate during the rollout phase. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -189 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled and stable descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, which is a critical factor in ensuring a safe and controlled landing. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 36°F and a wind speed of 3 kt from 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 kt, while the headwind component was 3 kt, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the approach and landing phases.
The total landing distance of 4,683 feet was 67% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's weight and the wind conditions. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration of the aircraft after touchdown.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft came to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold. The pilot's skills and experience played a significant role in achieving a safe and controlled landing, despite the slight deviations from the target speeds and distances.
