Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,295 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 355 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 08 at SOCA Cayenne – Félix Eboué Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,585 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 172 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 33°C, a wind speed of 16 knots at 60°, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 16 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it began its enroute climb 1 mile south west of Matoury, Guyane, French Guiana, rising from 1,088 feet above sea level to 40,123 feet above sea level, an increase of 39,035 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 125 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its first descent 46 miles north of Mana, Guyane, French Guiana, descending from 40,176 feet above sea level to 35,863 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,313 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another climb 39 miles north of Mana, Guyane, French Guiana, rising from 35,820 feet above sea level to 38,113 feet above sea level, an increase of 2,293 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another descent 45 miles north of Mana, Guyane, French Guiana, descending from 38,124 feet above sea level to 36,322 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,803 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered its enroute level cruise, which lasted 109 minutes, covering a distance of 787 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent 2 miles east of English Harbour Town, Parish of Saint Paul, Antigua and Barbuda, descending from 35,358 feet above sea level to 1,416 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,942 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 104 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10 at TNCM Princess Juliana International Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 81.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,393 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 10 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 310 meters, a touchdown speed of 147 knots, which was fast, and a touchdown rate of -663 feet per minute, which was heavy. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C, a wind speed of 1 knot at 90°, resulting in a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 868 meters, which was 38% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.6 meters from the centreline.
After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,040 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 172 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 6,800 kilograms.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 10 at TNCM Princess Juliana International Airport, but the landing was not without some issues. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 81.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,393 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown distance of 310 meters was considered good.
However, the touchdown speed of 147 knots was faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before touchdown. The touchdown rate of -663 feet per minute (fpm) was also heavy, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a significant amount of deceleration upon touchdown. This could have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and potentially caused some vibration.
In addition to the issues with touchdown speed and rate, the runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline. This could have made it more difficult for the pilot to control the aircraft during the rollout phase. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 9.6 meters from the centerline, which could have further complicated the pilot's task.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 29°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 90°. This suggests that the wind was not a significant factor in the landing, and the pilot should have been able to maintain a stable approach and touchdown.
Overall, the landing was scored 82.7%, indicating that while it was not perfect, it was still a successful landing. However, the issues with touchdown speed, rate, and alignment suggest that the pilot may need to work on improving their landing technique to achieve a more consistent and controlled touchdown.
