Flight Score
Arrival
Add power on short final to hold speed at 116 kt, correcting the slow threshold speed before it carries through to the flare.
What happened: Threshold speed was slow at 114 kt against 116 kt, and touchdown followed short of the aim point at 73 m. Crossing the threshold slow like this usually carries the touchdown short.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator against 116 kt on short final.
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,444 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 73 m short of the threshold. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at TTCP A.N.R. Robinson International Airport took less than a minute, covering a distance of less than one nautical mile. The ATR 72 then began its departure roll on runway 11, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 120 knots. The takeoff distance of 1,054 meters accounted for 43% of the runway length. Local weather conditions at the time of departure included a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, with a wind of 11 knots at 130 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 9 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 3 miles southwest of Scarborough, Tobago, increasing its altitude from 1,031 feet above sea level to 1,237 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then entered a level cruise 2 miles south of Scarborough, maintaining an altitude of 1,237 feet for 2 minutes while covering 4 nautical miles. This pattern of climb and cruise was repeated several times, with the aircraft climbing from 1,426 feet to 2,233 feet in 2 minutes, covering 4 nautical miles, and then entering a level cruise 2 miles west of the airport, lasting 8 minutes and covering 25 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 9 miles southwest of the airport, decreasing its altitude from 3,050 feet to 974 feet in 4 minutes, covering 12 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 11 was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 92.0 degrees at 3 nautical miles and 940 feet above ground level. Touchdown occurred before the threshold, with a speed of 114 knots, which was slightly above the recommended value. The touchdown rate was also high at -591 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also satisfactory. The total landing distance of 941 meters accounted for 38% of the runway length. The total flight distance was 54 nautical miles, taking 21 minutes, and the aircraft used 289 kilograms of fuel.
The final approach to runway 11 at TTCP A.N.R. Robinson International Airport was conducted from the west, aligning with the heading of 92.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 940 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a steady descent rate and a stable airspeed. However, the aircraft touched down before the threshold, which may have been due to the relatively high speed of 114 knots at touchdown.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft exhibited a hard touchdown rate of -591 feet per minute, which may have been influenced by the relatively high speed. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained a consistent and accurate approach path. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 30°C and a wind of 13 knots at 130°, contributed to a moderate crosswind component of 8 knots and a headwind component of 10 knots.
The total landing distance of 941 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 94.1%. While there were some areas for improvement, such as the touchdown speed and rate, the pilot demonstrated good control and accuracy throughout the approach and rollout phases.
