Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,581 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,581 m of the 2,803 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 603 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A320, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at San Francisco International Airport (KSFO). This process took approximately 8 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 01L, with the aircraft taking off after covering 57% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 1,267 meters, and the liftoff speed was 139 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of KSFO, it encountered local weather conditions of 16°C temperature and a wind speed of 0 knots from 270 degrees. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile northeast of the airport and continued for 15 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,012 feet above sea level to 38,350 feet. This climb covered a distance of 156 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 3 miles southeast of the CA04 Flying N Ranch Airport. This phase lasted for 16 minutes and covered a distance of 455 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started overhead Seattle Paine Field International Airport (KPAE). The descent from 38,207 feet to 1,377 feet took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 89 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08L at Vancouver International Airport (CYVR) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 100.0 degrees at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,345 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 2,803 meters, and the threshold height was above the target. The threshold speed was good at 137 knots, and the touchdown speed was 126 knots, which was also within the acceptable range.
The touchdown point was 181 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -144 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 4°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots from 110 degrees, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,494 meters, which was 53% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 709 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 54 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 4,832 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Vancouver International Airport (CYVR) on runway 08L, achieving a score of 95.1%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 100.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,345 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted in a relatively calm environment, with a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 110°.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 181 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the recommended area. However, the touchdown speed of 126 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -144 feet per minute (fpm) was also smooth, suggesting a well-executed landing.
One notable aspect of the landing was the runway touchdown position, which was slightly misaligned by 5.3 meters from the centerline. This deviation may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error, but it did not appear to significantly impact the overall performance of the landing.
The local weather conditions, including a headwind of 5 knots and a crosswind of 1 knot, were relatively mild and did not pose a significant challenge to the landing. The total landing distance of 1,494 meters was 53% of the available runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
During the rollout, the aircraft maintained a very good alignment with the runway centerline, indicating a high level of control and precision from the pilots. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and rolling out smoothly.
