Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,599 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,599 ft of the 10,819 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,028 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A330-900 taxied from the parking area to runway 19R at ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda Airport in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 19R, the aircraft accelerated over a takeoff distance of 5,249 ft, representing 49 % of the runway, and lifted off at 164 kt; ambient conditions were 60 °F with a wind of 5 kt from 239°, including a 4 kt cross-wind component and a 3 kt head-wind.
The initial en-route climb commenced 1 nm east of Maersta, climbing from 1,025 ft asl to 35,500 ft asl-a gain of 34,475 ft-over 23 minutes while covering 141 nm.
Subsequent level cruise began 3 nm north-west of Vimmerby and continued for 82 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 656 nm.
A second climb started 2 nm south-east of Monostorpalyi, raising altitude from 35,996 ft asl to 38,650 ft asl, an increase of 2,654 ft achieved in 5 minutes over a distance of 38 nm.
The next cruise segment originated overhead Capalna, lasting 80 minutes and encompassing 612 nm of flight.
Descent began 15 nm south of Patmos, with the aircraft descending from 39,003 ft asl to 7,007 ft asl-a loss of 31,996 ft-in 10 minutes while covering 67 nm.
A brief cruise followed 12 nm south-west of Symi, lasting 2 minutes and spanning 7 nm.
The subsequent descent started 10 nm south-west of Symi, dropping from 6,723 ft asl to 6,005 ft asl, a reduction of 718 ft in 2 minutes across 8 nm.
Another cruise segment commenced 6 nm north-west of Fanes, lasting 3 minutes and covering 15 nm.
The final descent began 2 nm south of Rodos, descending from 5,561 ft asl to 1,341 ft asl-a loss of 4,220 ft-in 4 minutes while traveling 14 nm.
The aircraft entered the final approach to runway 24 at LGRP Diagoras Airport from the east, on a heading of 252.0° at 4 nm and 1,312 ft agl.
Landing on runway 24, which is 10,819 ft long, was achieved with a total landing distance of 5,334 ft (49 % of runway); the threshold speed was 147 kt, touchdown occurred 663 ft beyond the touchdown zone at 140 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 159 fpm and a lateral deviation of 12 ft from the centreline. Weather at the time was 77 °F with a wind of 6 kt from 229°, including a 2 kt cross-wind and a 6 kt head-wind.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 3 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 1,568 nm, lasted 223 minutes, and consumed 44,572 lb of fuel.
The Airbus A330-900 executed the final approach to runway 24 at LGRP Diagoras Airport from the east on a heading of 252.0° at 4 NM and 1,312 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits, and the aircraft was aligned with the runway centreline under a wind of 6 kt from 229° (crosswind 2 kt, headwind 6 kt) and a temperature of 77 °F.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good threshold speed of 147 kt and the height over the threshold was good, indicating an appropriate flare initiation point for the A330-900.
Touchdown occurred 663 ft beyond the designated touchdown zone with a good touchdown speed of 140 kt and a good vertical rate of minus 159 fpm; the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 12 ft from the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 5,334 ft, representing 49 % of the 10,819 ft runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
Minor refinements should focus on reducing the 12 ft centreline deviation and bringing the touchdown point closer to the intended zone to fully exploit the available runway length.
