Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,097 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 449 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 30 at GCXO Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,618 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 279 degrees.
The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 9 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead GCXO Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport. The climb was from an initial altitude of 3,077 feet above sea level to a final altitude of 15,826 feet above sea level, an increase of 12,749 feet in just 5 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 2 miles north of Tegueste in the Canary Islands, Spain. This phase lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 52 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase started 2 miles west of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 16,014 feet above sea level to a final altitude of 1,405 feet above sea level, a decrease of 14,609 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 65 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 03L at GCLP Gran Canaria Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 21.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,343 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on runway 03L, which had a length of 3,097 meters. The threshold height at 58 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 134 knots.
The touchdown distance was also good at 451 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 127 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -470 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 15 knots from a direction of 30 degrees, with a crosswind component of 2 knots and a headwind component of 15 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,053 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, a process that took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 154 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 42 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 1,700 kilograms.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 03L at GCLP Gran Canaria Airport, achieving a score of 93.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 21.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,343 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 134 knots, which was within the target threshold speed.
However, the touchdown speed of 127 knots was slightly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly fast on touchdown. Additionally, the touchdown rate of -470 feet per minute (fpm) was considered hard, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a significant deceleration upon touchdown. Despite these minor issues, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 15 knots at 30°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 15 knots, which helped to reduce the aircraft's ground speed and improve the landing performance. The total landing distance of 1,053 meters was 34% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining for a safe stop.
The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 93.7%. However, the minor issues with touchdown speed and rate highlight areas for improvement in the aircraft's landing performance.
