Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,387 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 297 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Munich Airport, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. Departure roll occurred on runway 26L, with a takeoff distance of 1,742 meters, which was 44% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 163 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 5°C temperature and winds of 4 knots at 130 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the tailwind was also 3 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Hallbergmoos in Bavaria, Germany, where the aircraft climbed from 2,525 feet above sea level to 35,791 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,265 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 147 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 3 miles north of Srednja Vas v Bohinju in Radovljica, Slovenia, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 69 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 2 miles south east of Delnice in Primorsko-Goranska Zupanija, Croatia, and descended from 35,933 feet above sea level to 3,968 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,965 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 126 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 7 miles south west of Rogoznica in Sibenik-Knin, Croatia, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent 6 miles south west of Vinisce in Split-Dalmatia, Croatia, and descended from 3,889 feet above sea level to 1,363 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,526 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at Split Airport was from the south west, with a heading of 52.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,283 feet above ground level. The landing occurred on runway 05, which had a length of 2,387 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 148 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 294 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 141 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -420 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.5 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 12°C temperature and winds of 24 knots at 120 degrees, with a crosswind of 22 knots and a headwind of 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,401 meters, which was 59% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 366 nautical miles, taking 69 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,248 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at LDSP Split Airport, achieving a score of 96.6%. The final approach to runway 05 was initiated from the south-west, with a heading of 52.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 2,387 meters. The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 148 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 141 knots was slightly faster than desired, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown.
The touchdown distance of 294 meters was considered good, but the touchdown rate of -420 feet per minute (fpm) was quite hard. This may have been due to the aircraft's high speed at touchdown, which can result in a more aggressive touchdown. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.5 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 24 knots from a direction of 120°. The crosswind component was 22 knots, while the headwind component was 9 knots. These conditions may have presented some challenges for the pilot, particularly in terms of maintaining directional control during the approach and landing.
Despite these minor issues, the aircraft's runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. The total landing distance of 1,401 meters was 59% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft coming to a stop in a relatively short distance and with minimal deviation from the centerline.
