MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,107 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,107 m of the 3,837 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,012 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Black Square Starship N45FL taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LIBR Brindisi Airport, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 05, with a takeoff distance of 1,196 meters, which accounted for 67% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 137 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 4 knots at 360 degrees, and a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb, starting 3 miles northeast of Materdomini, Puglia, Italy. The climb took 21 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,009 feet above sea level to 32,085 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,076 feet. The enroute climb covered a distance of 78 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 15 miles north of Bisceglie, Puglia, Italy. This phase lasted for 94 minutes and covered a distance of 472 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles east of Sisikon, Kanton Uri, Switzerland. The descent took 10 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 32,125 feet above sea level to 13,142 feet above sea level, a decrease of 18,983 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 50 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile northeast of Welschenrohr, Kanton Solothurn, Switzerland. This phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute descent, starting overhead Courroux, Jura, Switzerland. The aircraft, Black Square Starship N45FL, successfully landed at LFH2 Bale Mulhouse, achieving a score of 87.2%. The final approach to runway 15 was initiated from the north-west, heading 155.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,290 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 583 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly off-target. However, the touchdown speed of 94 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of 27 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots at 230°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. These conditions likely contributed to the smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 2,014 meters was 52% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, with the touchdown point being slightly beyond the target zone, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, and the pilot demonstrated good control and handling skills.
