Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,785 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,785 m of the 3,237 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 568 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 03L at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,538 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 168 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots at a direction of 90 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northeast of the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,951 feet above sea level to 33,825 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,874 feet in 24 minutes, covering a distance of 117 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started overhead the Chicora Field Allegan in Michigan, where the aircraft descended from 33,989 feet above sea level to 2,064 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,924 feet in 24 minutes, covering a distance of 87 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 27C at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 270.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,389 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 27C was successful, with the touchdown point being 151 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was hard at -409 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 12 knots at a direction of 290 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,704 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in 6 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 213 nautical miles, taking 64 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,620 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 27C at KORD Chicago O'Hare International Airport, achieving a score of 94.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,389 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 135 knots, which was slightly above the target speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -409 feet per minute (fpm). However, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control and stability during the landing. The threshold height at 58 feet agl was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 148 knots.
The landing distance of 1,704 meters was 53% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control and stability during the rollout phase. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2°C, wind speed of 12 knots at 290°, with a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, and the pilot demonstrated excellent skills in navigating the aircraft through the final approach and touchdown phases. The score of 94.3% reflects the high level of proficiency and expertise displayed by the pilot during the landing.
