Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,747 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,747 m of the 3,709 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 943 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, Morocco, served as the departure point for this flight, with the aircraft taking to the skies from runway 35R. Taxiing to the runway took 11 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. As the aircraft began its departure roll, it accelerated down the 1,985-meter runway, which was 53% of its total length. Liftoff speed was reached at 174 knots, and the aircraft quickly gained altitude, clearing the ground in a short distance.
Once airborne, the crew initiated the enroute climb, which began 1 mile east of Zawyat an Nwacer. The aircraft climbed from 1,580 feet above sea level to 3,618 feet, an increase of 2,037 feet, in just 6 minutes and covering 23 nautical miles. The crew then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, which lasted 3 minutes and covered 11 nautical miles. As the flight progressed, the crew initiated a series of descents, the first of which began 4 miles south of Mohammedia, where the aircraft descended from 3,685 feet to 2,151 feet in 3 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles. The final descent began 5 miles northeast of Berrechid, where the aircraft descended from 2,318 feet to 1,086 feet in 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 35R at Mohammed V International Airport, coming in from the south at a heading of 345.0 degrees. The landing was completed at a speed of 130 knots, with a touchdown point 522 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.9 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 8.9 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,661 meters, which was 45% of the runway length. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking just 2 minutes to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 58 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 1,928 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The final approach to runway 35R at GMMN Mohammed V International Airport was initiated from the south, heading 345.0° at 2 nm and 437 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height at 106 ft agl that was excessively over target. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, aligning itself with the runway environment. As the aircraft descended further, the threshold speed of 150 kt was reached, indicating a controlled approach.
The touchdown point was 522 m beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 130 kt. The touchdown rate was firm at -322 fpm, indicating a controlled touchdown. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.9 m from the centreline, which may have contributed to a slightly longer rollout. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 24 °C and wind at 14 kt at 10°, were moderate, with a crosswind of 6 kt and a headwind of 12 kt.
The total landing distance was 1,661 m, accounting for 45% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 8.9 m from the centreline. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 78.6%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown and rollout, the aircraft maintained control throughout the landing sequence, demonstrating a high level of proficiency.
